Agreed. I observed monumental stupidity and unbelievable wastes of human resources and, worse, an "I-don't-give-a-damn" attitude.
Not surprising. The Ascension way (overbearing centralized control of local ministries by folks in St Louis with minimal understanding (and often competence) of how things actually are) doesn't always lead to better outcomes and lower costs. Any gains from the "wins" (legitimately securing a good deal on a product, well conceived process and/or service) are easily offset by the waste and inefficiency of the "losses."
