Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Stop trying so hard

Being a top performer at Honeyhell will do nothing for you. It will not put you above a slacker if that's what you're hoping for. What you will get is more work and guaranteed walking papers for the next round of layoffs courtesy of your manager who sees you as a threat. Trust me, this is one of the few companies where slacking off pays off.

Good point. Years ago in another lifetime, I was told to never promote my best electrician, mechanic, or engineer to a management position because, if they didn't work out, the only options were to demote them and they quit, or fire them. The end result would be that you just got rid of your best worker. That is the idea behind failing up. :)

HON is the best place to fail upwards. Just look at the president of HON AERO; a complete mo--n who ruined ISC before getting his big promotion to head of the boys club. Working hard does nothing for you but get you worked harder. The idea is to do as little as possible, dont stand out, don't call out anyone or anything that you see doing anything wrong and you'll be ok. Just come in, do your time and go home; like a prison sentence.

When I got hired in 2005, my goal was to work as hard as I could to start my career in corporate America. I thought they'd see my hard work and say "this one is a good one, let's promote them". HA! In reality if you work hard, the manager wants to keep you around or will single you put as a threat to their job, depending on the situation. You'll still get the standard 2-3% raise as the people who work for 40 mins then take a 20 min break every hour. HON is not the place to do your best work.

Absolute truth here , most managers/directors are sitting in very cushty positions and are constantly petrified of losing them. Our last Senior Director outright told me when he moved to another company that he spent most of his time pretending to work and earnt 2+ times my salary for it. He told me he earmarked anyone that would disrupt it for him and would present the teams ideas as his own in closed leadership meetings. He was PROUD of it. I see it with the new guard too. Lots of talk, no walk, want you to grind but clip you if you show too much initiative. Trust me, this is NOT the place to do your best work, and to be honest you couldn't even if you wanted to as everything is too FUBAR.

Always do your best for your company as long as it is writing your paycheck, that is what you are paid for. And that is what will make the company more successful and increase your 401K balance. Not happy? Look for another job. But first get all the training you can, HON will give that out for free, and you cant afford to pay for it on the outside. That will best equip you for the job you want when you leave. Companies arent looking for slackers to hire and slacking off is a hard habit to break once you're in that rut.

@ima
Sounds to me like you are part of the problem with employee satisfaction and company functionality.

Problem is the myth that diverse teams win in technology innovation. This is complete BS. Technology is driven by visionary leaders who get their hands dirty.
So... who is the visionary leader that will drive honeywell forward with billion dollar bets?
Can you name one?

This is the d-mbest thing I’ve seen. Performing does pay off. And the company won’t ever thrive with everyone conspiring together to slack off intentionally and then wonder why our numbers aren’t good. Brilliant.

Amen.....so very true. Rest assured when you look back a couple of years from now you will find the remarkably average to below average still thriving at HON
