I feel bad for employees - mostly those who joined more recently - who choose to extend their hours to "stay competitive." They have no idea that it is completely unnecessary. No amount of extra work will ensure their place at Ford once cuts start. It's just a numbers game, nothing more and nothing less. It won't even help if they're looking to get promoted. We all know how that works - unless you're willing to kiss some major a-s you can forget about it. They are basically working hard for nothing.

Yes, performance does not matter. The people making the decisions probably don't even look at that over age, salary, etc
Many folks that were working 50-60-70 hours a week got broomed in August. 40 and out. Cause we are all to lose our jobs as the stock tanks, sales plummet, and profits dry up due to material costs. Oh, and wait until the UAW goes on strike demanding wage increases to out pace inflation! Ford's 8% margin will plummet when the UAW gets 50% raises!
Ford is @#&$ed! Get out now.
Agreed, Quite Quitting is the best strategy. Work on improving yourself not the heartless company.
Putting in extra hours believing you'll get more out of it is a su---r's game. Some quick numbers picked for convenience.
Say Stanley Sadsack is paid $80k salary and wants to "be more competitive", but being a sad sack only puts in an extra hour a day. Assuming six weeks off between holidays & PTO that's about $43.48/hr dropping to $38.65/hr, and rather unlikely to help him climb the ladder when giving only a paltry extra hour a day. He's just dropped his effective hourly rate by 11% with little likely-hood of improving his situation through either a larger than average merit increase or future promotion.
Let's say Stanley instead decided to get a part time gig at a fast food jo--t instead with those 230 hours he was willing to give away to be more competitive. Assume that Stanley is a decent negotiator (or he wouldn't feel the need to be more competitive at his salary) and starts at the top of the "up to $15/hr" being advertised all over. That nets him an extra $3450 for the year, working out to an averaged hourly rate of $40.31, only a decrease of 7% in effective hourly rate, but is an actual 4% income boost for the year. Note that this boost is more than the typical merit increase of 2.5%, plus or minus a faction, which Stanley is likely to get in any case.
Had to go into PDC after the last round of cuts. Place was like a funeral. Even Chiefs and Managers were looking very gloom. Morale is really in the tank. Billy, you need to do something like now.
People had that don't give a cr-p attitude due to the recent culture that was created.
If this is not corrected there may not be a ford to save.
