First, my heart goes out to those who were SIRPed and are devastated, hear-broken, struggling to cope, blindsided, etc. You will get through this and I wish you the best of luck.
However, I feel like I won the lottery. I am a long time pensioner, so I needed to leave this year. Getting SIRPed was a huge bonus because of:
- Severance pay
- Severance for medical, dental, life insurance, and AD&D. And life insurance has additional 12 months after severance.
- paid for unused vacation (I took no days off-saw this coming)
- free career management
I also have a line on a great job that is ideal for my skill set. Things couldn’t be going better (except if my last day was November 30). My manager was uncomfortable and sweaty during our brief separation session but I had to contain my excitement! That’s OK. She earned her pay for the day.
Oh, and to shut the trolls up about an old one riding it out just to collect a paycheck, for the last few years I was a TA or on the bubble for one and have been working in new tech for over a decade.
