This site has been great for me in the last few months to remind myself how toxic and irreversibly broken EM is, and to gather courage and motivation to leave.

Every time I feel demoralized and rejected during my job search I came back to this site and regain instantly motivation and strength to resume my search.

Thank you for offering me this daily reminder of how rotten EM culture is and how badly I need to leave this toxic place, regardless of how much I need the Health Insurance and how close I am from become RE.

This site is great Anyone who has lived the real Exxon and EM long enough can easily filter out interesting tidbits, truism, gossip and news. As the other people mentioned it's nice to have your own experiences and feelings validated with open honesty.

To convince all prospective hires not to join EM so they don't have to go through the pains I had to go through. To incentivize all current employees to gather courage to leave and convince them that yeah, absolutely the grass is greener, pretty much anywhere.

GTFO ExxonMobil.

To read the latest rumors.

To burst some bubbles with actual facts.

To learn about corrupt practices, policies and brain washed zombie employees. Also learned about fraudulent and failed organizations and its employees within the larger. corporation (former CSR in Clinton, New Jersey that is not part of the EMTEC is an example).

401k was leaked, lay-off news, safe place to provide and receive info anonymously that’s unsafe to do so at work. Also learned about RSU program on here before it was communicated and expanded. A really good thread was about CL, YEE, and salary. Helped compare salaries between upstream, downstream, chemicals, and support functions. Learned that even though the corp is offshoring jobs to BTC and KL - those guys also have no career path past 5 years and the long term goal is to offshore them from BTC and KL to 3rd parties even cheaper. I’ve learned that the rascism in the company is global and has different cultural takes depending on the region. When your manager and plant manager and VP all say they have no control - this site is the best way to feel like you do have a voice and do have a way to influence. Heard about the recruiter talking about Exxon’s ranking system. Learned about how your ranking drops at 45 - so I talked to coworkers and found out that yep your ranking drops at 45. I probably would be more fed up with the company if I didn’t know that there were literally hundreds of fellow co-workers posting and reading on this site. There is strength in numbers. I feel that strength through this site.

@OP I’ve learned just how reactionary the O&G workforce really is. Exxon is a decent proxy for the industry’s white-collar workforce.

I also decided not to pursue a potential job opportunity with Exxon based on what I’ve read here. In fact, if a company has an active board on this site I don’t talk to their recruiters period.

News that the company is slow to report on.

Fatalities, changes in policy, etc.

Or, if I don’t want to hear it lied about (E.g. hot desking is for employee benefit, no layoffs, etc.)

To remind all people about all the lies that EM spreads around the world, and not to allow to people to forget the cr@p that EM is.

Similar reason to those already listed, and helps to remind me that I'm not the only resident of Crazy Town, been here 7yrs, but on my way out by YE....just finishing the job interviews.

We come here mainly because we hope that our managers (whom we know also come here to browse and seeking intelligence) read the true opinions that we have about them

Misery loves company? It's comforting to share your frustrations anonymously with those on the same Titanic. No reason to hold it all inside and erupt inside your cubicle unexpectedly.
