What were the things that Old EM had vs those of current New EM that (almost) everyone wants to escape from?

I bet there will not be a comparison between morale and attrition 2012 vs 2022.
The difference in data would be so significant that action would be required.
EM Execs avoid collecting data that shows trends they want to hide.
If any collected data shows an undesirable trend, it is buried, and a new data collection agency hired. This happens in topics like Salary Comparison Surveys.

10 years ago attrition was near zero
Since 2020 only Sponsored and NRE have job security.
80% of EM employees work year to year contract fearing Axe every assessment cycle.
Since 2020 I expect a “Farewell “ email twice a month from friends quitting.
Old Exxon - as long as you were technically sound, hot the job done and showed year-on-year growth as an individual, you were ranked well and rewarded.
Old Exxon - we don’t give a cr@p about what you get up to in your private life. Just don’t bring your personal issues to work.
Old Exxon - we will give you open and honest feedback. We value integrity and honesty.
New EM (since around 2010) - the complete polar opposite of the above 3 points.
Old:
We want you to maintain your lifestyle while traveling for the company. Do treat yourself from time to time as a thank you for being away from your family for work.
New:
We don't give a ratA about your lifestyle and that you are away from your family. Just stick to the $75 a meal policy.
Old EM: Management accepted that ranking isn’t perfect and bias affect ranking cycles so longer sustained performance was targeted. This was frustrating but you didn’t have huge shifts YoY that now cause stress to personnel. Especially when we no long accept bottom 20 performance.

Asking because EM employees are applying to every operating company in existence. It’s the talk of the town.
The Old EM was far from perfect, but you knew what you were dealing with, and the upside seemed worth the downside, to me anyway, which is why I stayed as long as I did (resigned last year).
Old EM (10 years ago)
- Good total compensation
- World-scale, long-term projects to work on
- Opaque and paternalistic career planning model
- Incredible amounts of red tape
- Decent job security
- Many individual offices with doors
New EM (now)
- Industry-lagging total compensation
- No long-term projects or even a clear business strategy
- Opaque and paternalistic career planning model
- Incredible amounts of red tape
- Zero job security
- Hotdesking / We3
Better work environment! Many co workers I’ve talked to recently want to quit
For one, supervisors had more ability to affect pay and promotion
We have janitor duties (no trash can in office) and admin duties as we have to prepare expense report ourselves.
How cheap we are is beyond reality.
