Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

"Layoff", "RIF", "Firings" and "Downsizing" due to "Financial Necessity" are all such unpleasant words

I much prefer to think of these topics as "gardening", "pruning" and "tending to the flock" across the "changes in the seasons". Can we try to keep discourse on this board nicer, more pleasant, civil and upbeat? Thanks in advance!

Are you saying that management sees their employees as weeds?

I got a good one! instead of "downsizing" we can call it "spraying RoundUp"

I've been here just over a year. I still feel like I was hired to be layoff bait.

Just call it what it is: Management failure. These guys should be thankful they aren’t back in feudal Japan where failure had REAL consequences. Of course that opens up a whole new vocabulary. And not a Zen garden in sight!

Feels like a George Carlin skit on soft language.

"Firing" -> "Layoff" -> "Reduction in force" -> "Gardening"
"Industry follower" -> "Industry straggler" -> "Niche player"
"Layoff list" -> "Rumors of reduction" -> "Safra's Spreadsheets"
