Quiet quitting

Painful to work when you are surrounded by people who were quickly unfairly promoted, who are 1 to 4 levels above you, and you know you are much smarter than them? If you are stuck to the area and can't leave GF, what do you do? Quiet quitting! which is what I am doing at GF. And life has become much better. Just do the minimum to stay in job, show that you are putting that extra effort and, going above and beyond, when in reality you are not. Because putting extra effort has not bought you anything for many years, and those undeserving people got promoted. So, now you just ACT. Praise your manager in meetings. Even if you have brilliant ideas, or see what can fail, keep it to yourself and enjoy the show. If the manager calls an orange as apple, say that it's a beautiful apple. Do not volunteer to take extra work, because at GF it's useless. But at the same time expose their faults, follow their flawed processes and very indirectly show them they are stupid very carefully in front of whole team. It's fun.

Yes, employees are biggest asset, but incompetent managers at GF turn them into liabilities. Right people are not in right places and levels.

Top management is so confused, which makes middle management run around like chickens with heads cutoff, because these yes-men and women just want to survive, and they know their worth, so they push the $hit down. GF is just trying to fool itself by making powerpoints, and rehashing them to the next meeting to look impressive. Slides can not make up for lack of strategy and lack of communication. Wasting time in useless frameworks and documentations which have no value add. Stupid KPIs are invented and tracked to fool everyone.

The big IT project is going to be a major disaster but will make some vendors rich. If I don't know how to drive a car, buying a nice car is not going to help me, and even if I hire a chauffeur, I will have to tell him where to go. Automation can't help if there is no process, only tribal methods which come and go with people.

Hangover from 7nm disaster is still there, that company is still clueless when it comes to R&D.

Useless HR survey coming up again. If the new HR boss is going to use the same survey and same stakeholder based review system, same outcomes can be expected. But who cares, she can be in position for a couple of years and exit with a parachute. People don't give honest feedback because a) nothing happens b) there is risk of retaliation as in small teams it's not hard for managers to figure out who wrote those comments. If manager surveys show they are efficient, what's the need for this useless stakeholders review, which is kept private and wastes everybody's time.

Enjoying quiet quitting for now, till I can really quit this joke of an oil-funded semiconductor company...

@1ghk+1iXyzI89 GF needs to do another round of “work smart” and get rid of all the smart people and let the managers run the tools. I think they can make the attrition rate up to 50% and save more money to the senior managers. When everyone hiring during the Covid period, GF worked smart people and when most of companies hiring freeze, GF eager to hiring people. What a fantastic strategy.

When I first learned the term “quiet quitting,” my first thought was wow this was invented at GLOBALFOUNDRIES. Most have been doing way before the term gained traction in mainstream media. Everyone at GF started quiet quitting about 2-3 years ago when the majority of employees woke up to the reality of how GLOBALFOUNDRIES really works and that career advancement wasn’t really a thing. Worksmart program too really shocked people awake to the reality of the situation and now the vast majority of employees are checked out aka quiet quit
