Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Employee referral reward is a 50-50 sham.

I’ve referred two different people for two different positions. After two weeks they were told by HR that the position no longer existed. A week after that, they were contacted by HR saying that a new position was opened that they should apply for.

Each supposed new position was reporting to the same managers, for the same jobs with the same job description. The only thing different was the job ID number. I contacted HR and informed them that my referral previously was word for word exactly the same on the job title, reporting managers and description. HR said since its a new job ID its a new posting so the referral fee given to me did not apply.

My reply was “So you guys collect the referrals, once you get enough, you close out the posting, reopen the same posting with a new Job ID and contact the referrals given to you to keep from giving out referral money to employees, is that right?” No response we given.

@ @4phe+1icKamFV:
Emails between candidates, HR and hiring manager mentioned me as the one who referred them. I know so as I was cc’d. The rest is simple.
Sorry no longer open.

Oh look a new posting exactly the same word for word with the same hiring manager but with a new posting ID, you should apply. By the way since its a new posting ID, sorry, no referral $ for you. This happened TWICE.

Sounds like some one (you) is drinking the corporate koolaid.

Its up to the candidate to list that they were referred each time they apply. Sounds like some of you have tin foil hats on.

The company will always do what’s best for the company vs the employee, period. Even if that means manipulating the employee referral program as to avoid the referral fee and still obtain top talent, then that’s what they will do. If this has been done, while underhanded, is not illegal. I’m sure someone up top is patting themselves on the back over this in being financially savvy on saving money. Bottom line is, is that you busted them on it but that’s as far as its going to go. Providing such feedback on the company survey will do you no good at all as even that is also manipulated.

Why would anybody refer someone to Citi? That place is a joke. Management has no clue.

So much for Citi touting transparency and honesty.

Happened to me too - only my candidates weren't even contacted. And this after manager asked me to recruit some people. No way I'll ever refer anyone again.

Both potential candidates got the standard “wait forever until we contact you” routine. Needless to say they found other opportunities and went elsewhere. Well played Citi, well played.
