Hamsters are an excellent insourcing option. Can buy them for 20 bucks each, low running cost and they only live 2-3 years: no severance.

It's happening since last week, just by doing an open search in LinkedIn (although I don't have a lot of connections) you can find a lot of farewell posts or people announcing new jobs tagging X and the word layoff.
