Thread regarding Ford layoffs

It's never, ever been this stressful. This huge number of cuts announced, then nothing.

I am so stressed out every day. I wish the cuts would just proceed and be done asap. What is taking so long?

Yes it is very stressful, but you will get thru it. We SRDs did, and so can you. My suggestion goes along with a prior comment. In lieu of worrying what will happen -- get
laser focused on putting your ducks in order. Get the resume updated and print multiple copies. Start looking for a new personal computer, get your pension options printed. If you have a company vehicle, start looking for a replacement car. Print your 4 allotted tag numbers and the family and friend tag numbers. Print off coworkers phone numbers and email addresses, paystubs, PRs, current insurance info and corresponding SSIP info/beneficiaries data
as well as your HR rep's name and phone number. Reach out to former bosses for their contact info. You won't be able to take business cards nor rolodeck but you could print out some of your supplier contacts info. All these tasks are done easily using
a work laptop because you're inside the firewall, but aren't that easy to do using a personal laptop after termination. Good luck everyone.

Guys the 7 year plan for cuts and restructuring was mapped out and commenced in earnest in 2019. Thank you BCG. Part of the plan is balancing turning the screws with labor unrest. They want to keep people busy working right up until they are cut. Turn the sc--w, ease up a bit, turn the sc--w, ease up a bit,,,
The end goal is just 10% of salaried work force will be US / European.
Part of the reason the cut dates are fluid is they need to finish spinning up counterparts in Mexico, Brazil, China, India, etc. They also need to lock in government handouts before cutting large swaths of salaried.

The more fearful people are the more likely they are to overlook loss of benefits, increased cost of benefits, wages not keeping up with cost of living, increased work hours for same pay.

All you need to do is look at other clients of BCG, Bain and their ilk and see how things played out in the years following their engagement. Talk to people who worked at major airlines, IBM, etc. The path is always the same.

Accept that Ford doesn’t want you or value you, and plan accordingly.

@tzq Funny you say that. Some of us already have the job of 3 people due to actions taken since 2019.

2008 was worse. The job market and housing market were bad. If you were let go, what could you do? Sell your underwater house and move to another job market?

Let this management decay with no functional teams for them to sacrifice anymore.

Went through it in 2008 and 2019. 2019 was worse. 2022 seems similar to 2019. It’s terrible that Ford continues to do this considering all the negative feedback Ford got from SRD. They really don’t care.

It was more stressful back in 2008 (to see your co-workers get escorted out). Then, you're stuck with the job of 3 people.

@OP. Don't stress about something you cannot control. I have no rush myself: the company can take all the time in the world. The more time management waits to cut the work force, the more time people have to prepare themselves: finding another job, stashing some money, using the medical benefits, etc.

IDK why some workers feel threatened now with the layoffs. We work in an "at-will" state, where you can be terminated at any moment. There is no "safe" place, and has not being one for a while. Make sure you live below your means, save and invest, keep your skills honed, and be always ready to move to your next job.

No one is irreplaceable. We (employees) are treated as a disposable tool, so for me, all the companies are just temporary positions. Don't get too attached, don't get emotional: it is just a job. There is life away from work.

The cuts are coming. Unlike our previous management who kept employees informed about pending HC reductions this new team seems to be dysfunctional on how to handle or process this topic. On one hand they say we have too many people. then go ahead south of the border and staff up.
Just think how this would have been done if the leak to Bloomberg did not happen? But once the cat was out of the bag you had both the COB & CEO come out in the same townhall and state reductions will happen. Personally, it stinks to keep people in limbo regarding this. People lively hood are at stake. You have id--ts making comments to get rid of the old folks those people are sick in the head. Self-centered and spoiled. Someday they will be in those shoes. Keep upsetting the so-called older crowd and you will lose customers as well. I don't see people flocking to the show rooms like the 90s. F-Series may lose its lead as the bestselling vehicle for the first time in over 40 years.

Just find a job and move on
No point in worrying about things you cany control.
Even if you get through this time you will be on the same boat few months from now.
Thats not a management to work for.
