Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Manufacturing future at Intel is futile, layoffs are a certainty

@1eng+1igqSZym Got to right

All of this talk about layoff this or that and fire
Middle management.

It doesn’t matter.
None of it does.

Intel’s business model is broken from the simple fact that processor revenue cannot sustain leading edge fabs any longer.

Intel does not have economy of scale to compete with TSMC. Period.

They missed the mobile phone megatrend and all the kings horses and all the kings men can’t put Intel back together again.

Once you lose scale, you’re done. Just look at all of the players that threw in the towel on fabs. It’s always been due to a loss of scale.

That's why Intel had to pursue the foundry model. Unfortunately that only works when you have a process that is actually competitive. If customers don't use TSMC they can still use Samsung. These are fabs that have lot of experience serving external customers. Why would anyone risk their company using Intel when they have consistent delays and no experience as as a foundry ?
