Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I hope that the severance will last until I get a new opportunity

I wish someone here would tell me that they had a great experience on the job market, because I hear from some colleagues that the situation on the job market is not at all ideal and that some are already thinking about changing the industry.

Interviewed for Tesla position after working at Ford for over 8 years. Even started talking salary, it didn't come close. They offered around what I made 10 years ago because they said " you have no electric vehicle experience & would need to undue Ford training ". Pair that with them being appauled that I said I do not always want to work mandatory OT they stopped having interests. Interviewed for GE for renewable energy, offered a lot higher pay, relocation, but area had much higher cost of living, a $300k equivalent house was at minimum $500k, so it didn't make sense financially. I'm still in contact with that team about other opportunities. GE healthcare is also hiring. I'm looking to work for another 2-2.5 years at max with Ford, due to family circumstances and then look elsewhere if I'm still at Ford.

It took me about 3 months to line up the best option this spring. Had one or two low ball offers in automotive, then branched to other industries and got a huge raise for it. Expand your horizons and it'll be a bit easier.

OK. Fired in 2008 downsizing. 13 years with Ford Credit. Now, prior to Ford worked for GMAC (GM) for 5 years and fired during GMAC downsizing. So, after Ford Fired me, held my head high and changed direction started working for hospital system. Healthcare will give a recession proof skill, steady income, good coworkers, and tons of satisfaction, lots of paid training. GET OUT OF AUTO INDUSTRY...just my experience.
