Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This is just a means to get rid of US employees

Fools. I do think they've got the EVs segregated in a separate company under Ford that will make it easy to flush the whole works when the EV idea goes T.U. in about five years.

EVs cannot happen. There isn't and never can be enough electricity to run the things and I don't think TPTB can pull off telling America as a whole "So sorry -- you're not going to be able to drive nearly as much as you used to."

I will say that as clear as that picture looks, the next five years is going to be way beyond interesting.

A few weeks ago I read an article about someone who “tested” an EV by driving to Florida. They claimed that their travel time doubled because of time spent stopping to charge the vehicle. They put a lot of effort into finding places to charge and had to have the vehicle towed a couple of times because they ran out of juice before finding a place to charge. Because of issues such as these the masses are not ready to completely switch over to EVs. The EV customer base is a subset of vehicle customers and there’s competition so Ford, if they’re lucky, will get a portion of the EV customer base which is not enough to fund an entire company.

The battery on my F150 needed to be replaced after 1 1/2 years. Good luck with EV’s. Not to mention that the mining of raw materials like lithium is terrible for the environment.

it's a train wreck in the making. If the market is flooded with EV's how is everyone going to charge their vehicles? The Grid cannot handle it.

How is anyone going to go on roadtrip? Even if they can get the range on the battery decent, you'll have to wait hours to charge your vehicle.

Cost for EV's are going to go through the roof, so who will be able to afford them?

Don't forget about our environmentalist wackos out there...they will start complaining and protesting that we are depleting the earth of natural minerals to make the batteries.
Which by the way, most of the minerals come from overseas from countries that hate the US.

Also what about the batteries...what is useful life, then cost to replace? All I know is my rechargeable devices start to lose life after a year or two of charging (and that is not even with a rapid charge which shortens the life even more).

When the batteries are done what are we going to do with them? Bury them like the wind turbines...another protest by enviromentalists.

Seems like this whole "clean" energy is not a well thought out plan.

DTE Energy in Michigan is asking for a 9.8% rate increase, “to improve the grid.” That will be happening every year if everyone is plugging in a vehicle or two.

I predict the ICE used Vehicle market will be where most people buy cars. Unfortunately used prices will rise because there will be a limited supply. Even the new ICE vehicles wont sell well because of the ability to track where you go, and how fast you drive etc......1984 on steroids. I think a whole lot of Engineering students will be rethinking their careers as AI comes online, maybe farming is a better choice!
