Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I started looking for a job in small businesses

I think it will be quite unusual for me to work for a smaller business after working at Ford for many years.
Some friends do not support me in this, but I still think that it could be even better for me and for many of us who lost our jobs here. Thoughts?

I agree; you'll work more and probably get paid less. However, you will see the fruits of your labor more than at Ford. I've transitioned and although the car was nice, there are other things to life, such as sanity and a more caring environment, than what a multinational offers.

Cons:
Less career opportunities
Less pay
More Vulnerable to economy downturn
Personality conflicts are unavoidable
Less flexibility as you are responsible for more

As someone who has worked for a smaller / mid sized Supplier (to Ford) for years, I would say keep all options opened. There are a lot of benefits when you have 50 people in an office as opposed to thousands, but the grass isn't always greener. When you work for a larger company like Ford, people like myself are always envious when it comes to your benefits, time off, work from home, etc. I think there is a big misconception that smaller companies care about you more than big companies, and that is false. I can confirm that my company will let you go quicker than Ford will when times get tough, and a lot of people saw that during Covid in Metro Detroit.

I would suggest maybe looking into a different industry. The one thing I've seen in my years in Automotive is that no one cares. Every year profits get slimmer, every year experienced workers are let go, and every year the problems get bigger.

Good luck to you.

I found small business to pay a lot less, but I was responsible for everything, jack of all trades. So I did more but got paid less.

Depends on your needs
