Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

UK manufacturing, should we shut it down ?

With the dollar to Euro/GBP at a low/high depending on your point of view, wouldn’t it make sense to shut all European manufacturing down and move it all back to the good old US of A ?
That way we could rid ourselves of all the hassle of dealing with those UK guys who think they are NASA, it is so funny the way they imagine themselves being so essential to getting oil out of the dirt, it’s only the d-mb oilfield my friends, Y’all suck.

Your so wrong! NOV promoting from within would create a position that would need to be filled and nobody in the right mind would want to fill a NOV job vacancy from without.
In out in out shake it all about.
I left NOV years ago ive never been happier shelf stacking at my local Aldi.

Another interesting fact that should be explored is the carbon footprint.

We should place in measures that compare the carbon footprint between:
NOV Management uk
NOV Manufacturing uk

From this data you will clearly see who has the biggest carbon footprint.

Keep uk manufacturing because it's not producing nowhere near what it used to, this results in a lesser carbon footprint compared to before.

And focus on NOV management uk as the carbon footprint has definitely been increasing at an unprecedented rate.

This situation needs managing now, as climate change is a existential threat.

And due to the amount of Global managers NOV have I would recommend a new position:
Planetary Carbon Footprint Manager.

I'm sure NOV could hire internally and there would no shortage of takers, and they have a great track record of promoting within.

In the UK we are too busy trying to understand why on Earth anyone who isn't a member of the Military would need to own an As----t Rifle.

I work in a UK manufacturing site and I cannot believe the wastage of money, the quantity of management levels (and quality of management). The decisions being made are ludicrous, managers and just protecting their jobs. We used to turn $100M a year and make 20% operating profit, now we break even at best. We will be heating a workshop with a 40’ roof height all winter when a 30’ roof height would have sufficed but someones ego necessitated as high a roof as possible.
These people are playing with peoples livelihood ... I know we will be closed down in the next year or so as senior senior management have been visiting recently.
There is no passion for our product or customer left, most staff are just going through the motions.

Looking at the comments on here it’s no wonder NOV is at the bottom of the pile as a O&G supplier, complete lack of understanding for anything out of your own back yards. Superior attitude statements, non cost effective statements, clearly some low intellectual individuals on here with big issues, talk to HR I’m sure they can get you the help you need so you can play nicely together.

Nothing that is manufactured in the U.K. is cost effective So you might as well pull out all U.K. Ops and relocate to where they understand fundamentals of business!
