Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What are the places to avoid working at in EM (if possible)?

EM is not uniformly bad. There are places where there is still a good work culture/environment/balance compared to others. What are the undesirable areas, BUs, departments? Why?

GSC also sucks including EMIT, because no innovation other than the yellow snoop dog and photos of kids visiting the state of the art lab or as claimed by a few EMIT folks. EMIT does have world renowned VP though so may be thats something to brag about. HR, forget about it as it has become Human Remains under the veteran dominant gal TG. Controllers, cut throat and toxic environment. E&PS, just look at the state of affairs at EMHC and you will know.

They have a history of putting HiPos in jobs that they know nothing about, ki----g morale and then they move on. The people, town and recreational opportunities are great, but the legacy that has been left by some of their up and coming “ki---r bees” is unbelievable. Many of them don’t even stay with the company. Some do unfortunately…..ding do-g the 🧙‍♀️ lol.

Global projects is a wreck, plus they have brought back many annuitants who were absolutely terrible before they left.
Gotta love the home boy hook ups….

Definitely agree with Global Projects; still a good old boys network. Who you know is more important. Plus we are on a death spiral - attrition is wanted so JG can replace you with a BTC employee or a contractor (aka bringing back one of the good old boys).

Avoid EMTEC. It is a dead end job. Unfortunately, there is no more meaningful process design/engineering/product development/research/etc. going on at Exxon. It is not a good place for technical people and, on top of this, you will be NSIed because the chosen ones must be ranked OD or E. Look elsewhere.

Totally agree with the assessment of Global Projects. We've become useless at everything and lack any outward sales pitch to communicate even our basic purpose.

I give us 2 years before all of our function is just contracted out.

Global Projects.

It used to be a fantastic place to work, but has been relegated to a service provider… and it’s now terrible. Lack of opportunities, high attrition, micro-managed to death by business lines.

Avoid anything related to supply coordination or the trade floors. You’ll have to deal with some arrogant egos and constantly hear cackling from the traders at least on crude trading floor you do.
