Thread regarding Ford layoffs

SIRP vs VSSP?

If the VSSP was offered to “low performers” why wasn’t a voluntary program done before the SIRP separations in August?

I’ve been by countless managers and individuals told that performance was NOT a factor for those selected for SIRP.

Why doesn’t any of this make sense?

If the target amount of VSSP and retirements is not hit, will more layoffs happen in Oct/Nov or Q1?

Worse case all the top performers retire and get hired by tier 2 suppliers and then the cost of engineering goes into the piece part. Just one big shell game because nothing is free. If you think India, Brazil or Mexico is free think again.

The 30 yr pension is what kept employees loyal to Ford (loyal meaning putting up with stupid decision until you can't take it anymore) . Once that generation of workers retires the company will just fade away.

A supervisor once told me don't ever think it is just more than a trade of your time for money. Anything more and you will be disappointed.

The current leadership is going to RUIN this company, and seems that the Ford family is going to allow it!

Layoffs are going to keep happening. If you don't see that, you are blind!
Look at the people that were let go. Most fell into the category where their retirment packages were beginning to ramp up.
How SAD to see loyal employees treated so badly!!!!!

@1nma+1j4XUv27 They also sprinkled in a few 20 and 30 year olds to avoid age discrimination lawsuits for the SIRP round.

Make no mistake August was getting rid of pensioners (or almost pensioners) How come 9 out of 10 people let go in our group were pension eligible and some I’ve talked to were asked if they were willing to go? I seriously doubt performance was even one of the criteria. I’m thinking the search looked like years of service + 401k balance + pension eligible + sue potential.

So you can leave if you are old, or you can leave if you are a total slacker. Why can't you get a voluntary if you just want to leave period? Only oldies and loafers allowed? No sense.

This company has changed so much for the worse, I'm glad it did not crash and burn earlier I guess, but what a shame. It's fallen so far.

SIRP was about my job being eliminated. Or that is what they told me. Unemployment after severance runs our. VSSP is a take the cash and hit the road slacker. Too bad they are not tossing some good will cash to the good employees who have had enough.
