Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

I don't want to be laid off

I'm tired of reading about people who want to be laid off and who can't wait to leave. If that's true, then why are so many of you still here? If I felt that way, I wouldn't wait for severance. I'd just walk away. But I don't feel that way. I've been here for the majority of my career and I'm too old to start again somewhere else. I also like my job, which I know is not popular to say these days but it's true. This is why layoffs scare me and hearing others minimize them or treat them as a joke is upsetting.

Do a good job while you are employed there.
Maybe they will let you will stay until you retire.
Maybe they won't.
Get ready. Save money. Get out of debt. Brush up your resume.
They pay you, give you benefits, give you the opportunity to increase your skill set.

But if you believed them when they told you they loved you - you are woefully naive.

No, you don't feel that way because you are terrified. Fear is not a plan. Get one. Quickly. If you are not impacted THIS TIME....down the line, when you are more afraid,
and older, you may be. Odds....yep.

Surviving breeds anxiety and more fear. Think musical chairs. I have never understood why corporations don't realize or CARE about that. They just tee up the next round of we really love and care for you gimmicks. Yogurt anyone?

Your issue isn't all the people ready to leave. Their "plan" likely includes securing a new job OR for others a package. Everyone has to do what is best for them. You should too.
It's tough. But gone are the days where you can rely on forever after with ANY company. That's over. Face that....good luck to you, everyone.

“T-Mobile stole our Metro customers”. STFU. T-Mobile bought Metro before Metro died. They hit the wall and were out of spectrum in their ten markets before the deal closed nearly ten years ago. Move on dude.

I started with Nextel and survived two mergers and so many layoffs I’ve lost count! After almost 18 years I’ve decided it’s time to look elsewhere. I don’t want to be laid off and I love my manager, coworkers and my job. That said, through all of the changes this experience has been the most unsettling. There is no communication internally regarding cuts, no announcements so that we have transparency and can be sensitive to those impacted. No communication with compassion from SLT so that we know the path forward. Just “we are restructuring to meet customer needs”. I’m not naive, I know this is just business however I am also smart enough to know when the dealings of said business are not above board. The pep rallies and pomp and circumstance to support such a business while underneath it all there is a cancer festering seems disingenuous. I don’t want to be laid off, I wish things were different so I’m leaving to save my sanity, my dignity and work for a company that leads with the values I adhere to. Leading by example, transparency and ethical business practices.

Wasn't it nice of the SLT to force the v mandate on people, only to then lay them off a few months later?
That is who you are working for.
But now it is obvious to all who wish to see that TMO will be non-stop cutting, all while Sievert will be strutting.

Let’s be real, it doesn’t matter if you like what you do. I did enjoy working at Metro before t mobile stole our subscribers. They couldn’t beat out sprint so the bought them too. Merger my but. Yet another in the many lies. There’s no one left to buy. They spend too much money trying to acquire new customers for their 5g. I hated t mobile and their arrogant sales teams. Despite being reminded that we will be ok during Covid and no one will get laid off, mentioned on calls numerous times, 3 months later the shock of being laid off came. Of course I had a family to take care of. I threw out a whole large moving box of awards and trophies. It didn’t matter, I was just a number. Develop new skills, start over. They will start squeezing your commission or bonus in due time. They have to hit their bottom line. Don’t wait for them to eventually lay you off to hire someone at half the price who doesnt know any better.
