Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Question

A couple of my teammates were moved from their position on the tower side of the business to a position in small cell. They did not have a say in the matter, they were reassigned by management. From what I understand, this has happened to several different departments. Any idea of why this happened? Or how many people if effected? Or if it will continue to happen?

About 1% of our department was moved over to the network side. They were given the option to take positions that have been sitting open for ages because nobody in the job market wants them, or quit. Reading the tea leaves- this is a predecessor to further reduction in headcount to come in the next few weeks. Nothing lasts forever & I wish y'all good luck.

Tower is a cash cow and has a solid financial value whereas small cell and fiber are cash losers with no viable business model. Just look at the earnings transcript..With the current interest rate, our company will have difficulty borrowing money to only loose more money in small cells and fiber. If possible, stay on the tower side.

I think it's very isolated but it will happen more until the two are fully merged. Anyone who has worked on both sides, or at a competitor, understands how bloated the tower side is. I don't mean that as an insult to anyone but many have roles that aren't needed, or that can be consolidated.

We have whole teams with multiple managers to cover tasks that should be handle by a person, rather than a million dollars in payroll.

It's the thinning of that and the thinning of redundancies.

I would imagine it has something to do with the expected growth of small cell and the slowing down of the macro sites.
