Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

My career's most expensive mistake

Change can be scary, but it's definitely more scary when one day you realize that by staying here too long and not switching sooner, you wasted your career. People make this mistake over and over, and I guess one of the big reasons for that is that many still can't come to terms with the fact that XOM is no longer what it used to be.

Recognizing when it’s time to make a change is also an important skill to develop.

Well no sense ruminating over what you could have done differently and how the past at XOM was so much better. It's not. This mess was not created overnight.

You can't change the past but you can focus on the present. Show compassion for yourself first. If you decide to stay, then do your best to make the most out of your experience to build a career you are proud of. I bet you can easily name several things that you did that made a difference. If you are truly unhappy about your career trajectory and there is no recourse, then get out. I did and is much happier for it.

If you have a brain and have skills, then it is not over until it's over.

Hahha keyboard warriors . I can understand. I tried having some integrity with my boss and it backed fired. Need to understand and assess peoples bias soon as possible. Who their friends are or the agenda .I’m sure that’s any where today right.
