Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Any news about cuts?

I almost wish we would have cuts because, like this, I'm worried 24/7. I always feel like we're in the calm before the storm and something bad is about to happen. If anybody knows if any cuts are coming or, even better, can confirm that we won't be having any cuts sometime soon, I'd be forever grateful.

Jim Goodnight will do all he can to minimize layoffs. Unfortunately, large layoffs are typical when mature software companies are sold. And at some point, a sale will occur.

So it's reasonable to worry. But as the previous poster said, being passive will only make your worry worse. Make a plan for your career and take action.

Sounds like you need therapy to help with your anxiety. SAS has a mountain of cash. Thousands of employees have retired or left voluntarily in the last 3 years. Don't expect layoffs just because you have anxiety.

The company didn’t lay off in 2008. This is a better downturn by comparison.

Worried 24/7? Sounds miserable and toxic. I thought this was a 'Best Place to Work'? Or so the chicks there keep voting.

Being passive and waiting for others to act will only make your worry worse. Become an active participant in your own life and reclaim your dignity. Move on.
