Get the job offer now and ask to start late January and by then you will know. You then take the VSP package from Intel and walk over to the new job. DONE. Why torturing yourself?

Don’t wait till you get kicked to the curb.
The company will most certainly layoff thousands soo. It could be you, be prepared for yourself and your family. The company cares little for you or what you did or sacrificed.
Lastly look hard at Intels strategy and execution and study the competitive position of its major competitors and it will be clear over the next few years tens of thousands more will most certainly be sacrificed for the ELT. Totally FUBAR situation given the current strategy.
Start interviewing if they don't let u know either way by the end of next week.
Basically, that's what I did in 2016. Took the six-figure package and walked over to the new job. Easy peasy.
