Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Retire already

If you are within a couple years of retiring, why not go ahead and retire vs taking a job away from a younger person who will be severely impacted by layoffs? Greed? Stupidity? Or is this just what the karen and boomer generation does? They only care about themselves.

Because perhaps you should have been hired sooner?
It's not my problem.
Nor is it my concern. I don't care.
I'll leave when I'm ready, and not because some new guy cops an attitude.
As the guys didn't in 1982 when I got hired.
Tough for me 40 years ago, tough for you now.

Having been the low guy on the totem pole many times over my career much like many of my cohorts, I get your frustration OP. But even if the senior person retires and saves your job from a surplus this quarter, you’ll still be the low senior person and will be looking over your shoulder every 3 months when they announce the next surplus. If you want to stay to retirement, you’re probably going to have to be flexible enough to either move to save your job or take a different type of job to stay with this company. I’ve already moved several times into 3 different states and 7 different cities just to extend my employment with T.

Sounds like Stinky either made this comment or his toxic culture bred it. For those of you that think people in their 50s and 60s should stop working, I am sure your opinion will change when its you. It certainly has for Stink himself.

pension increases $8 a month or $100 a year. that and social security is all I have for the rest of my life. And soc sec plans a 23% reduction in earned benefits in 10-12 years. The list is endless on why people can't retire.

what about an ill spouse who can't get health insurance if the employee leaves. Are you a troll, so self centered or actually that d-mb?

Humm. I retired 20 years ago from this 5H1T Ho-e of a company because I invested well. Very well, multi-million dollars well. But if I had not, I would have stayed until I was financially secure. With that said, bro -- have you got gaul. You're calling Boomers/greedy/stupid/and only caring about themselves ---- WHILE YOU EXHIBIT THOSE TRAITS! Your begging, name calling, to the extent that someone else should take a hit for you because your younger & feel threatened.
Grow up, get an education, get training, quit complaining, write a resume, START LOOKING ELSEWHERE.. Perhaps Burger King, Mickey D's, Wal-Mart?

If I suggest the original pister sit down on the business end of a railroad spike would he/she take that advice? I see your advice onmy retirement date to be worth as much.

Not any of your concern if or when the rest of us retire.

There is not a one size fits all answer to this question particular for management employees who will not be covered with any subsidized health care until they are Medicare eligible. I’m craft and leaving this year to due to the lump sum being down almost 30% if I remain there are many factors to take into consideration and everyone’s circumstances are unique. On a footnote if I were five years younger and faced with the. Same dilemma I would not be retiring and just hope for interest rates to come down over the next few years although that seems like a dicey proposition these days

Also health insurance, medicare starts at 65. NO early medicare option. I was surplussed at 63 + 5months. COBRA for 6 months. Then no income and health insurance for 13 months at 1,620 per month. $21,060 cost and no dental or vision overage. Do you think we did not have the same problems in our lifetime?

Because you’re not eligible for full social security until sometime after your 66th birthday. It’s not greed, it’s basic economics. It’s also a horrible time to be retiring with sky high inflation, high gas prices, high energy costs, etc., etc.! Not to mention people’s 401Ks are down 20-30% in some cases. Blame your woke presidential administration for this situation, not the employees that are too concerned or worried about retiring just to save your worthless a$$!

Around me there are only old dinosaurs which want to work until they die, but maybe 5% of them are actually good at their job
But i wonder if old folks leave, will there be young folks hired ? Cause so far we brought fresh old ones from other teams,
go to some job fairs and recruit (I've never heard of that)
