Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I feel like I'm not appreciated in my role

I'm considering quitting.

I've been at the company for two years, and I've worked hard to learn the ropes and grow into my position. But lately, I feel like I'm getting micromanaged by my boss. He seems to be nitpicking everything I do, and he asks me why I did something this way or that way—when I have a clear reason for doing it that way!

I don't know if it's because he thinks he's helping me or if he is just trying to show off how much he knows about our industry, but either way, it makes me feel like he doesn't trust me, and it's really starting to affect my self-esteem at work.

Most employee quits due to poor supervision or pay. I've had good ones and terrible ones. Overall CVX is a good company. I'd look at other job opportunities in different BU's, network and try to obtain informal mentorship. It's certainly helped me to survive 20+ years. Hopefully you are apart of the employee networks. Best wishes to you.

Sorry to tell you, 2-yearer, but you're not going to make it to retirement in this industry. Hunker down and take the paychecks...

I know I'm not appreciated in my role. Guess what, as long as that pay check hits the bank twice a month I really don't care.

Would a Certificate of Appreciation help? Or wait…is this about not getting any RAs?

I think you have come to the wrong site. This is a Chevron Layoff site not a Dear Miriam type site... I doubt you will get much constructive advice here.

Toughen up, buttercup! Maybe a month or two on a rig will “help your self esteem”!

Don’t take it too personally. There could be many reasons you’re supervisor is doing this, unrelated to your work. Quite possibly you’ll have a new supervisor before long anyway.

Yikes people are being harsh.

The first couple of years make a strong first impression and I’m sorry you are not having a good experience. It sounds like a lot of your challenges are rooted in your current supervision. I’d recommend having a direct conversation with him/her and explain how you are feeling and what kind of management helps you thrive. Then, if that doesn’t work out, two years is a pretty typical time to post for a new job, under a new supervisor. Try that and see how things go with a second boss before you let your first one drive you out of the company. Good luck!
