Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Out of 11k, only a few hundred are being let go in India

Why do we have to take the brunt of it?

India and China are Amazon's fastest growing markets for coming decades, so perhaps that's why.

Amazon don't have any real product. They got lucky while building their site, figured out they can rent excess cloud operation to others. They built a AWS business which is now very expensive and there are too many players. Same thing at Tesla. All the devices they are selling can be copied by Chinese companies for cheap. Going forward, Amazon will not have the same growth as they enjoyed so far. It makes sense to have an offshore facility to maintain what they have. US techies can seek refuge for sometime in financial and investment banking companies that do block chain development, which I believe the next big thing.

When AMAZON built the largest campus in India , that was the eye opener.

That will eventually causing American to spend lesser due to lower purchasing power. Amazon can now compete the same GDP level with Flipcart in India. For those unfortunately got laid off in the US will think twice of the spending coming Black Friday and Christmas in US dollars.

You really have to ask? The cost to employ people in India vs the US is so much cheaper espeically in software engineering and they have fine skills, I worked with many in India.
This is basic business and to echo another person, if your job can be done remote, it can also be offshored so be careful what you wish for.

Programmers in America cost two or three times those in India. To anyone running a business, this is a no-brainer.

The pandemic accelerated outsourcing. Every CEO who doubted remote work has now learned that it is feasible.

In the future, any job that can be outsourced, will be.
