This has nothing to do with the fake job interviews surrounding Charlie’s quest to increase diversity, for which the bank was heavily criticized and fined. I am referring to Wells Fargo’s standard procedure for when a manager wants to promote a qualified candidate within their own department.
Here is what is happening every day at Wells Fargo. A department has a job opening, and a manager wants to give that job to a highly qualified existing employee whom the manager views as the perfect fit for the available position. Manager is forced by HR to post the job and interview x # of candidates, knowing full well that the manager will ultimately hire their original choice. All of the hopeful job interviewers never had a real chance. It is a waste of time based on a ridiculous policy within WFC HR.
It is a policy which may have started with good intentions but, as usual, WFC managed to F it up in it’s execution.
Managers know it is yet another corporate hoop they have to jump through in order to work around unrealistic HR policies which are making life hard for everyone involved. It is a waste of time, and delays a department’s ability to move forward for months. Not to mention the false hope created for our employees who legitimately are trying to advance within the company. If the C-Suite and HR don’t know this is happening, they have their heads in the sand. They are unwilling to recognize or acknowledge this failure of a policy.
We should all question how many of the job postings at Wells Fargo are real vs how many of the job openings are pure corporate pretense.
