Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

The biggest mistake of Chuck is by hiring the wrong people for the ELT

I think that many of you can agree to the above statement. CR made too many mistakes by hiring some wrong people to it ELT.

New technologies are now done through acquisition rather than innovation.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco Cisco was founded on technology taken from Stanford without permission. When I joined Cisco in 2000 they had posters on the wall celebrating all the acquisitions up to that point, and they kept acquiring. Acquisitions both legal and otherwise is what Cisco has always been.

Microsoft seems to have transitioned from the legacy world of DOS/Office to the cloud, but off the top of my head I can’t name another massive legacy player that truly reinvented itself. Apple wasn’t that big when corporate wide cultural problems almost destroyed it before Jobs came back and without NeXTstep in tow which is the basis for macos, iOS, iPadOS, etc… I doubt he would have succeeded. Apple survived the 1980s because unlike the makers of far less expensive 68000 machines like Atari and Amiga they innovated by spending $1,000 on advertising for every computer they sold for a time.

Cisco is still turning in profit numbers that many companies would envy so there isn’t the catastrophic pressure for change, and without that and with Cisco’s cultural problems I can’t imagine any leadership team making Cisco an innovation leader.

LZ just reads meaningless PowerPoints with buzzwords of the day and gets paid 5M+

It used to be called "emerging technologies" years ago before that was dismantled. New technologies are now done through acquisition rather than innovation. When innovation is attempted internally - you get still-born products like DNAC and SDA. And when you merge too quickly into Cisco (like Viptela), it morphs to a steaming pile of sh.t. Leave something alone away from the cancer and it can thrive (Meraki).

How much revenue does LZ's generate? I liked LZ when driving compute servers or IoTs , but wondering what is the value this R&D BU brings to the table. Do these BUs see any LR if no revenue directly being generated?

A leader with strong technology chops creates their own company. Why would a leader want to be in charge of a sales & marketing company?

The role of CEO at Cisco sells switches and routers to the Department of Agriculture or Belgium. Cisco sells and markets legacy network equipment... even basic product management at Cisco is through acquisitions

leader with strong technology chops had been named to the role instead.

All legacy BUs (read: every BU) would have been eliminated together will all of us employees.

Chuck was the wrong choice for CEO in the first place. Think about where Cisco might be today if, when JC stepped down, a leader with strong technology chops had been named to the role instead.

MM was hired to cut costs and eliminate jobs without hurting the brand. Personally, I think the ELT is talented at their jobs. Depends on how you evaluate the leadership team.

They weren't hired to increase revenue or create new products/services. Elon is proving it's not easy to conduct massive layoffs without hurting the corporate brand. Cisco mastered the art of cost cutting 15 years ago.

Hiring wrong people happens. The fatal error here is to keep those employed even though they've demonstrated they're not cut out for the job.
