I used to enjoy my job once upon a time, but the last few years have changed that completely. I'm constantly stressed out over unrealistic goals and deadlines, having my workload increase all the time, and having to worry about layoffs on top of all that. I can't even stop stressing during Thanksgiving, which is a red flag in itself. Will things ever go back to normal?

I made a decision to not work more than 10 hours a day and then whatever happens happens. That was good for about 6 months, and then I was fired. So you are right, the deadlines are unrealistic, and working to and through the burnout is the new normal for the bank. So glad to be out.
There seems to be a person on this thread just causing stress. There will be no layoffs. Maybe the loan officers who never produce even during a good stretch.
Really mortgage? I heard it’s facilities and they are bringing in JLL and Cushman to run that group
Agreed- all mortgage getting laid off this coming week anyways
It's never going to get better. Bank used to be a destination type job. Now, all that is gone. Management's disdain for employees is everywhere. They used to value us, now they cannot wait to replace us. The moment they can replace you, you will be gone. Low pay, grueling hours, too much responsibility and work. Not a great place to spend your valuable working life.
You should leave. No job should be that stressful.
