How many surpluses over the past few years and especially on the list for Q4 223 are over 40? When the CEO says on a TownHall “Our employee demographic doesn’t match our current customer profile. Our workforce is older and our customers are younger…?” Well it’s not hard to understand this current round of surplus’s is ageism in disguise. AT&T used to be an employer of choice and one that cares for their employees. The word I hear often since this announcement is “Betrayed” “They betrayed us all.” I don’t disagree.

The best company to go over to the dark side, ever! Not even recognizable, and as a share holder & owner of a frozen pension, I worry about its future. Layoff class of 2017, here. I was 47 with 20 yrs of service and two kids in their 1st years of college, to boot I was as angry, as ashamed, and as scared as anyone on this thread. However, flash forward 6 years to today.. I'm making 80% more, better benefits, better work/life balance, and none of the BS that at&t shovels downward. AT&T has baked layoffs into their culture. Consequently, they've built a new management workforce that's understandably skidish, has no reason to be loyal, and has to have the lowest trust and morale ever in the suits up in the ivory tower. Trust me, there is life after at&t. A better life!! Certainly, losing a job via layoff is forever scaring, but you'll leave with valuable skills, experience, and proven tenure that stands apart on the open market. Things to watch out for.. Try not to make hasty decisions. Get your resume in order - pay someone if needed. Get advice on your pension. Beware, at&t may try to buy you out within the yr. In my most vulnerable hour they offered me a lump sum (close to half its value) in an attempt to cut ties. Enjoy your freedom!

So many of us WANT to be laid off for the long paid vacation and to just move on.

Layoffs in Minneapolis on Friday. In HR, process and support. Minneapolis has lost half its employees. They moved us from Downtown Mpls to Bloomington. There is no bus service to Bloomington and the drive for some was 2 hours. Would not be surprised if the whole office was closed in the next months.

Layoffs continue yet there is a doc on the insider site with a couple thousand openings with many opened in the last 2-3 months, while all this has been going on. Not sure if these are also listed on the career site.

Wireless employees were told today they were on a surplus list. Decisions won’t be announced until mid OCTOBER! If surplussed, employees will be given two weeks and then off payroll. Several teams impacted in mass markets group.

AT&T is really a company that only cares about the bottom line. Money 💰 🤑 💸. They encourage people to move to other areas of the company and no training. Then guess what lay you off. So impersonal and lack of leadership. 16 years and now looking for a job that has comparable pay. Nothing is out here we are screwed. So many people are depressed and seeing no hope.

Voluntarily Retired in 2017…knew it was only gonna get worse. Best move I ever made. Toxic company, immoral and upper management is HR nightmare

I am currently in mobility and last year week before thanksgiving my old department was laid off. I feel like another lay off is on the wave for mobility in 2023 things are feeling and looking the exact same before they laid my last department off.

Laid off in March. Look at your local City, County, State, Federal positions. Pay isn't the same but you don't have to live in constant fear of being downsized either. What is peace of mind worth!? Each has to make own decision, but worth considering and often forgotten as places to work.

Pretty much the entire learning & development organization was notified they'd be off payroll by November 1st. That's hundreds of people. All training will now be outsourced. So any AT&T employees lucky enough to actually get training will get it from people who don't actually work for the company.

I'm ready to go, just let me know the date you would like me off payroll and I'd be the happiest ex-employee on the planet! It's time cuz all of this nonsense is causing low morale and dissension among the workers! Best of luck to all impacted!

Susan Johnson, the head of Supply Chain ( or whatever they call it) , held a town hall after the JS announcement in May. She did not make RTW or surplus the high light of her presentation. Instead, she twittered about the Debt ceiling and had some underlings showcase some work around technology that was supposed booster network capability. One of network peers overheard it and laughed. Bottom line she was part of the lie/hoodwink. Not sure what the final headcount was, but RK team fired 59 managers.

In May was told we would have to report/locate at a hub city, reduce teleworkers to 10% or less, and that we would know in September where we would report to - you either moved there or commuted to keep your job. Then, all the sudden, they did a surplus - no reason for me being a surplus, just "we had to pick one". It will be a blood bath by September. 26 yrs, have to admit they have always been good to me, until I got laid off lol. Was really counting on extending my time here to September to better plan, now I have two weeks notice.

AT&T is cutting deep this time; don’t believe the interviews when CEO Stankey cites what a lucrative relocation package AT&T prides itself with. No packages being offered unless you are in the ‘club’. It’s downright disgusting they saved the hatchet 🪓 for 2023 to save 50% of the pension lump sum payouts. Soulless cowards who have made terrible business decisions repeatedly so they could hobnob with the A-list celebrities on the red carpet and attend Golden Globes and Oscars. While those of us who make this company great and wow our customers get tan over.

They are going old school this round.

Was laid off from Mass Markets 3-3-23. Are more layoffs expected in Q2? It was brutal but decided to write about it and offer resources for anyone else who might not see Ageism coming at them. Wish I had known them what I know then ;-) ageismisreal.com

Did you electronically sign off on the severance contract? Supposedly payment is issued within 45 days of that, and only on a regular payday. If you had direct deposit, maybe it would arrive today since the 21st is a regular payday (for management). I was laid off Mar 3rd, electronically signed severance agreement same day, so I’m still waiting.

My last day on payroll was January 31, 2023 and I still haven't received my severance. I'm wondering if I missed some paperwork, or just what is going on. Does anyone have any ideas who I could contact internally at T to look into this?

The reason AT&T has avoided media with the layoffs, is due to the lays off are considered a small amount. If the numbers exceeded a certain amount, AT&T would be required to provide notification to media, with the numbers. Depending on the overall total at year end, the number may be revealed. Just another way AT&T is allowed to hide what is really going on in the Company.
