Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

A very stressful period

I thought that I would never become completely burned out because I actually love my job. However, expectations from employees are continuously growing, the pressure is increasing. The atmosphere is very tense and the unusual behavior of the manager makes me even more anxious because I constantly wonder if this is a subtle sign that I will soon be laid off. I don't know about you, but for me personally, there have never been more stressful periods since I started working here.

Immediate manager has no clue. It's always a few levels up. You are just a name, age, salary in their spreadsheet. Hopefully your name doesn't sort to the top.

How would you "keep your eye on" is anyone really communicating with that manager?

I know what you mean - the last couple years were the most difficult in my time as a manager. If you are worried about layoffs, keep an eye on the managers 2-3 levels above you as they are making the decision in my experience. Your immediate manager is likely not involved, just one reason why some of the layoff decisions are poorly conceived.
