I’ve been with Fiserv over 20 years. I’ve got less than 3 until retirement. I would rather get laid off from Fiserv and hopefully get a decent severance than to go elsewhere and potentially get laid off and get nothing. It’s a horrible spot to be in. I would leave tomorrow if I was younger.

Terrible reputation
I told myself for years to hold on and just wait to get laid off. This last year (2022) was the worst year I have ever experienced at a job.
After almost 10 years with Fiserv, I poked around the internet for 1 evening and landed a new opportunity. I would have survived the layoffs this week but the news sickened me the way Fiserv is handling employees. The severance wouldn't have been the extra stress. I agree, walk away on your own. You'll be better in the end.

I put in way too much time and tears to leave with nothing. I knew it was coming and just waited it out bc F Fiserv and pay me (for once) what I deserve! I was rif’d yesterday but getting that severance package was an amazing weight off my shoulders and will allow me to really figure out my next steps.
I've been with Fiserv for 8 years and decided to get out immediately and took a paycut to do so. It feels bad all my hard work was for nothing career wise, but at least I won't die from a heart attack over the stress so I guess that is worth more than a couple thousand bucks.
I disagree. Get the severance if you can. Have a backup plan because if you are remote, your days are numbered.

Think if this in terms of two audiences, those going to an office vs remote employees...
Remote employees' days are numbered. The competent ones have left already. The remaining ones are the ones who can't move (or at least think they can't move). Never too late to learn something new or reinvent yourself, so don't think you can't. And no better time to start self-learning than today!
Office employees, while so many good ones have left, the ones that remain fall into a few groups...
- Those who can't move due to lack of skills/abilities (largest majority)
- Those realizing after a mass exodus creates a lot of new opportunity (fewer), and don't mind going to the office every day
- Those who are retiring in the next few years, just trying to hang on and make it (also fewer)
- Those who don't mind going to the office, are indifferent to the changes around them, and are just hopeful to brave the storm

The layoffs will never end under Frank. He also will spend as little as possible on employees. The 401k match and ESPP discount are perfect examples. It’s better elsewhere.
I'm not trying to be hurtful, but it feels so much better if you are the one who decided to leave than the other way around.
