Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Hello 2025.I am back for another year maybe? NOT.

Well I have been off for the past three weeks and it has been wonderful. Time away from that he-l hole with the awful toxic people. No one looking over my shoulder no knives in the back. No micromanaging emails from my passive aggressive boss. I was able to travel and enjoy life out west. I worked on my cars and hobbies. I built a new metal building to house my cars and hobbies. I have not been in a bad mood and felt great. My wife and children said I was more energetic and happy. Every time I am off this happens. I do not want to return to he-l. I have enough money to retire and am over 60. I can make enough of my investments to exceed my annual salary now. I am seriously thinking of taking my carryover and personal time off and then resigning. I am supposed to return tomorrow Jan 06. I will call in tomorrow and go in the next day. If it is still the same and it will be I will get ready to leave. I know I will be inundated with work and request. My boss will have lots of work lined up for me. I am the workhorse of the group and others do not have to do as much as myself. The micromanagement will continue and the complaining as well. So then I will take my remaining carryover and personal time off and then resign. When you are away from this he-l it is so clear how toxic and detrimental exxon is for your well being. Exxon doesn't like for employees to be off for more than a couple of days because they will see how wonderful it is away from toxic exxon. They say you can get used to anything good or bad. It becomes all you know and the norm like prison, he-l, or a concentration camp. See the light the other side of life. Go beyond the borders and fences and see the beauty. Goodbye he-l hello heaven. I cannot bring myself to work another year here. I will go in to remove my few remaining personal items. I have no one to say good bye to. So I will just disappear.

Update as I haven't been to the site in a month. I am officially retired done with exxon. I had to sign something about retiring and for my lump sum payout. They wanted me to sign a non compete form which I was told was voluntary. I did not because it stated that I could not work for two years with any projects I worked on at exxon. They wanted me to sign some other forms which I did not as well. I told them I only would sign the things that were required for me to get my lump sum and leave the company. The HR folks are real sl--e ba--s as I had to let my lawyer look at the stuff they wanted me to sign. Be careful about what they ask you to sign. Anyway I have never felt better in my life. I feel like I am young and full of hope for my future. No more being told I was no good or not good enough. No more pressure to perform above my peers and compete in the games. My life is good away from exxon. I have no regrets about my decision and feel it was the best. I feel free almost like being released from prison.

I just got the news that my potential has changed and I am stuck at CL 26 for the next five years. No raise and no growth. I am now ready to leave as well. The bar has been raised for myself and exxon is making it impossible to be promoted. I am retirement age and ready to leave. It may be a lie to get rid of me but I don't care. I am tired of never doing enough or it is always something more that I needed to do. I cannot win or even stay above water in this new system.

You're not alone. I've heard 3 resignations already this year. The leaves that the MC were seeking are happening...

The attitude of my boss has just made me call in for the next week with covid.Cough cough. After this I will use my remaining carryover vacation and personal time off. The boss called me at home and left a message asking when I was going to return. It seems there is a lot of work that pilled up over the holidays. Nothing has changed and my mind is made up. I have contacted my financial manager and the retirement rep. I am officially done with exxon. I can cruise for a few months and live off my wife's salary and some savings. I hope I can inspire others to escape as well. See you all on the other side of the wall. Good luck to everyone and I hope you all make it to enjoy retirement.

One suggestion - make sure to take on more responsibilities before you leave, and then announce your resignation a week after. Make sure to leave them scrambling!

I'm so happy that you can get out of this toxic wasteland! Enjoy! I've got two more years & then I'll be doing the same thing.

Lots of brilliant people working for this company but so few who can do basic math. From 55 to 60 you are getting 5% credit on your early commencement discount, but that’s just enough to offset the payments you forgo while working. None of us are getting big raises so you are eating inflation. At 60, you lose even the 5%, so you are now losing pension even before considering inflation.

Just leave and be happy.

I was just trying to get a few more years. The money is great but the workers su-k. You know toxicity. I guess I just got used to the treatment as normal. When you talk to people about their workplaces it seems so terrible and dysfunctional at ExxonMobil. It is not normal at exxon and it is abnormal. I have already gotten some emails as to why I am not comming in and when I will be back. My power hungry manager wants to control my every move. I may not even return to the office and they can mail my stuff to me. I feel 2025 is going to be worse and the comming years are even more horrible.
