2024 was a horrible year. I figured out that I was on the rif list and my potential layoff was continuously delayed. Major drama in my team and department. In January, I decided to accelerate my job search. I applied to 135 jobs and did 40 interviews until September when I got an offer. I left in Q4 24. Committed to using every single vacation hour for interviews, I was finally able to leave. Difficult year but no regrets. Advise anyone checking this page religiously to consider the same path.

I see now… you are confusing RIF and PIP.
You were simply mixing up two acronyms.
Sorry, a RIF is reduction in force, synonymous with layoff. It’s really quite simple.
Rif means reduction in force, layoff with severance. No performance improvement plan.
Rif doesnt mean layoff so your comments makes no sense. Rif would be a improvement plan so just say you got let go
You’re exactly right. It’s easy to take the high road in an interview after BNYM. All recruiters expect you to bash, but when you take the high road they admire you.
Yes, BNY was on my resume. Regardless of the culture, the experience is still valuable. I have 20 years of work experience. I won’t say which part of the bank I was sitting in.
I got out last year as well. Did not find that having BNY on my resume was an issue. The company’s toxicity is widely known and as long as you aren’t bashing BNY in an interview and you aren’t senior management, it’s fine. A big gap in your work experience would be a red flag, however.
OP,
Question please, did you have BNY named on your resume when you sent it to all these companies/ entities? I did and I am starting to think it works against me since this place is known to be toxic. I think I am guilty of being refused by association with Robin’s ‘Planet of the Apes’. Please advise
Congratulations and Best of Luck!
OP, do you mind sharing these - are you in Ops or business or technology ? And, how many years of work experience you have?
