Sounds like a good way to get rid of deadwood, and hire better talent:

the managers here aren’t honest and so low performers aren’t accurate
Ah! Nasser's idea at Ford 25 years ago... didn't work then, doubtful it will now. There is nothing new under the sun, just recycling old ideas, and try to pass them as "new", particularly after slapping some newer buzz words.
There are a few things to consider, that many of these "CEOs" never take into account:
- The moral of the workforce goes down with layoffs.
- The company doesn't require to have the best minds in all positions, just in key positions.
- New people needs to be trained.
- Disruption in the workflow after layoffs.
- Workers get more stressed out, which causes more errors and even some talent to leave the company.
Now, let's assume that Meta, due to its generous compensation, salaries, vacations, perks, videogame consoles and avocado toasts, already have the best workforce or close to it. Laying off the bottom 5%, what are the chances the new 5% will be better than what they already have? Moreover, why the best talent will leave wherever they are to go to a company that lays off the bottom 5%?
Now, having seeing Meta, let's apply it to FMC. Who in their sane mind will move to Michigan, to work in Detroit, receiving an average salary, for a company that's not doing great, while it is outsourcing its workforce? If they find someone, it will be the same category we already have from other companies, just liars like DF, that cannot do sh!t so they spin lies and stories to justify themselves, while looking to jump wagon in a couple of years.
Meta stopped fact-checking. Ford can follow Meta by stopping validation and verification that the vehicle actually works. Validation can be replaced by 'community jalopy notes'.
Ford unlike Meta will cut the wrong 5% as they will try to protect friends and family. This will sc--w the company even more. Ford can never do anything right.
doubt they will hire better talent
will probably hire cheaper deadwood talent or use AI
