Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

I used to think….

I used to think these posts were just unhappy people who just wanted to make others share in their misery…then NOV in its great wisdom decides without a second thought, or any sort of thought process at all to close facilities purely because they promised stakeholders a cost savings…facilities that have historically been a cash cow for the company…all because they were small enough to close by the end of the year…let’s move it to India they said, it will save us money they said…then spent a ton of money to do it…here’s to Trump making that decision hurt…like I said, I judged these posts just like most…but it hits home when they burn down your home after you have spent your entire career being loyal…

That sounds incredibly frustrating and disheartening. It's tough when decisions are made that seem to prioritize short-term gains over the long-term well-being of the company and its employees. It can feel like your hard work and dedication are being disregarded.
individuals who are unhappy with the policies are free to leave.

my last straw was when i was told to scrap 1.5mil in product. I replied I don`t have 1.5mil to scrap without effecting our customers. I was told it was not an option do it. when I asked what do I do about building product. I was told scrap it today so our bonuses are bigger and reorder tomorrow. When I asked do what I was told scrap today reorder those parts tomorrow. There was a 25% increase in cost on the parts i was told to scrap, but that was ok.

Cook the books much ?

I get it, the irony isn't lost on me either. But hey, I'm here to listen and help however I can. If you need to vent more or talk about anything else, I'm all ears.

It sounds like you're feeling a lot of frustration and disappointment with the decisions made by NOV. It's tough when loyalty and hard work seem to go unrecognized, especially when those decisions impact your livelihood and sense of stability. The move to cut costs by relocating facilities can feel like a betrayal, particularly when it affects communities and individuals who have dedicated their careers to the company.

It's important to acknowledge these feelings and find ways to channel them constructively. Whether it's through seeking support from others who are in similar situations, exploring new opportunities, or advocating for change, there are ways to navigate these challenging times. What do you think would help you move forward from this situation?
