Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Union vs non union

It’s too dangerous for non-union employees to come in to work but not too dangerous for union folks to come in. A lot of union employees work in a noc and could and have worked from home no problem. UNION LIVES MATTER! GO CWA! Let’s practice unity. Join your union if you haven’t and get prepared for district 6 negotiations. Wear red on thursdays!

CWA is a disgraceful union! I have been a member of many different unions throughout my life and can honestly say that CWA is either completely powerless or in bed with T!

L1 here. I make under $80k a year.
I also have had to take PTO for snow days in the past.

The difference is you voted on a contract that specifically doesn’t address the concern you just posted about. Maybe you should ask for that negotiation from your representatives next time.

Leave me alone, and let me eat my Walmart ramen at home in peace while I wait on a desk to come a available in the office I am assigned to.

CWA is the best run organization within AT&T. Revenue is up, membership is up and they’ve got T by the short hairs every day! Go CWA!!!!

L2 office worker (aka Manager) here, I make less per hour on average than a lower level union person. Yes my salary is higher, but we work a ton of hours. No we do not make on average $200k, please tell me which title and orgs that is and I’ll jump over there. My job can be done remotely, that’s why. I still went to the office yesterday and fought the snow and ice home. I can do my job better at home than in the office, that’s just a fact. Yes they are offshoring us as fast as they can. Your job requires you to physically be there to do it. You are also considered critical due to the network just like a lineman at the power company, that’s why you have to go in. Nobody cares if my TPS report gets done. Folks care if the network goes down.

Not even close. Maybe the Average L3 manager. And there are very few of those. Or maybe you don't understand averages, because if you did you would be talking about the median salary, not the average.

Exactly what NOC work can be done from the house without access to necessary tools?
Dispatch?
That can be done from Prague.

"extra 50k"??

My severance has no cap in Cali. Last I calculated it was $185k. How much does management get?

You forgot that managers make twice as much as you, so that extra 50k you waited 30 years for was earned in a year or two. Trust me, this is coming from someone who was once union.

Depends on what level.

Going craft to first level is 10% increase and next level is another 10%.

Twice as much as craft? Yeah... No.

“We're all going to inevitably be laid off but I'd rather be laid off as a union member rather than a manager because my termination package is much better than severance packages that managers get.”
