It's been almost 3 years since John Muir Health badge flipped us to Optum. We were assured that our jobs were not in jeopardy by us being sold to Optum. We were told this was a 10-year contract, and our jobs were safe for at least 10 years. All I could do is laugh and call out my manager when she said that. I pointed out that the contract with John Muir Health is good for 10 years, and that it has nothing to do with the security of existing IT staffs positions. Long story short, today was like any other day. Came into work enthusiastically, and helped some people out, took some calls, resolved some issues. Then our manager called in four of us into the conference room. He explained to us that due to a reorganization our jobs have been eliminated, and we were handed a folder. By the time we got back to our desk, all of 30 seconds... Our accounts were already deactivated. No time to say goodbye to my coworkers of over 20 years. Just enough time to get my cr-p and get the he-l out.
As I was looking on an online job search site, I saw our jobs posted for between 30 to 40% of what we were currently making. These jobs were posted 3 days ago.
Anyway, we all knew it was coming. It was really odd that they got rid of the folks that were the high producers, and experienced in resolving IT healthcare issues. We were also the highest paid and two of us are close to retirement age.
