Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Results today….

Is it me or the results were not that great today. Everything was worse than last year but it was a beat? It sounds like they set the bar so low and then say they beat it. Is it the stock buyback? Someone in finance explain.

T is such in a bad, horrible place financially. Either Stank was offered millions in tax breaks on zipcodes he wants to RTO or he really is DESPERATE to get rid of people. I have never encountered such CEO who is so focused on making employees life miserable. He's a boomer trying to prove a "point" well in fact, he is the only boomer that needs to go.

They barely made it and they show what they wanted to show. It doesn’t change the fact that the debt is huge and there is no innovation and the productivity is going down. On top of that the morale is at the lowest point ever.

It’s all smoke and mirrors. With all of the people lost last year, some orgs will not be able to perform and numbers will not be met. Just watch. Many teams are skeleton crews now and that writing on the wall is clear.

“ They use technology change as an add. For example if they bury fiber in your neighborhood and you convert from dsl to fiber that’s on of the 300k adds”
Perhaps I am missing something. In the financial report it shows total broadband connections YOY which includes a 40% decrease in DSL connections. Not a finance person but to me they are accounting for the DSL losses.

That is why they run the company and we don't. We complain but we really don't have a clue.

Stock went up 6%. That is a "great" verdict, coming from the most objective jury pool, investors.

They use technology change as an add. For example if they bury fiber in your neighborhood and you convert from dsl to fiber that’s on of the 300k adds. In other words you may have lost over 200k dsl to get 300k fiber adds. It’s a path to less overhead.

Results helped show T is moving in the right direction. 2025 will be another year of significant employee cuts. Q4 results demonstrate progress in that direction.

The company doesn't set the bar, the Wall Street banks and analysts do.

It’s also about consistency and delivering what they said.

Mediocre at best. Mostly smoke & mirrors.

Good question. Seems like they met, or barely exceeded, the numbers they forecast at the beginning of 24. Lot of the lower expectations were from the financial analysts. Somehow they made up for the month long strike at the end of the 3rd quarter which should have been a lot of revenue that was disrupted and expenses incurred to catch up. Basically that strike was a blip on the radar which is scary on the work content front.
