So many useless meetings

Nowhere I've worked so far have I had more useless meetings than here. By useless meeting I mean meetings where there is no clear agenda, nor is anyone completely sure what was decided or accomplished at the end. I'm tired of it. Why so many unnecessary and unproductive meetings?

We seem to live and breath by PowerPoint! Do you think CNRL or Tourmaline spend endless hours preparing ppt slides about stuff everyone already knows? They don’t! They just load, rinse, repeat…and create value for their shareholders by making cold, hard, cash…efficiently. CVE senior leadership, management and middle management can’t make a decision without a 60 slide ppt and a feedback spreadsheet or survey of countless attendees. What a joke! It’s like working for the Russian Politburo or Presidium.

We have a new team member that must have it in his goals to set up 2-3 meetings a week, whether they are needed or not. Then shows up late with no agenda and nothing prepared. WTF? Then a week later takes up the entire meeting with nonsense that nobody else cares about, just gotta get that meeting in.

Let those toxic people to be forced out of the company. We need good people to stay, but those with “poison” to be gone

IMO, the only way to deal with a toxic workplace and bullies is to find a new job and leave the company high and dry without any notice. Sc--w them over. HR doesn't have your back. Leadership likely won't have your back. Ignore any threats about reputational damage. People have short memories and we work in a "what have you done for me lately" industry. You'll be fine. Most bullies are all bark no bite.

Meetings are how the Cenovus leadership bullies get to mess with people. We have to ignore the bullies go get the work done. Alex likes this culture I guess.

Definitely too many meetings and a lack of decision making in the “leadership” of this company. Either way, I get paid and go home to my real life. Suggest you focus on the same for your own satisfaction.

Useless meetings because folks who organize them are disorganized.
Also , the more people the less productive it becomes if everyone opens their mouth.
Cenovus is a leader here lol 😆

Don't work for CNRL. Half your day will be spent in meetings.

Not sure about anyone else here, but I am now selective with the meetings I attend. If it is going to be a tactical let's go meeting, I have time, if its a meeting and I see some of the characters who will be there and turn it into a 1.5 hour+ meeting full of soapbox bullsh1t, I will either opt out completely or tell them I have a hard stop at 1 hour.

Even worse if you have consultants who get paid by the hour.
