Fed government is a whole different story, their budget is not random they are tied to the budget already outlined by congress and senate so he can’t even do that. on top of that workers can’t even ask HR questions, he’s notorious of not paying folks. sadly they are worse off than us WF folks!
Thread is a great example of someone being confidently and passionately wrong about something Trump did because they read it in a story with bad reporting. Happens thousands of times a day.
Credit to that person for eventually correcting themselves, most people don't do that.
The offer is in no way formal or legal, it's simply a bait to get people to resign via email.
5-day in office is mandatory now and non hackers will be terminated. Thousands of feds report to DC for higher locality pay but moved during COVID. They are still collecting that higher pay, which is fraud. I suspect they will get a few hundred thousand takers.
I doubt they'll have a substantial amount of takers. Job market is slow for high earners and why would they give up a posh job where you don't have much pressure? They just move at their own pace without any repercussions. No deadlines, no budgets.
Hard to wrap my head around this, as my first career before coming to Wells Fargo was the federal government. 25 years. It is bloated for sure but to offer up resignation to 2.2 million employees is wild.

No. Except in rare cases determined by your agency, you are not expected to work.
This is incorrect. There is no severance. If they “resign” it is deferred until September 30. They will continue to work with pay and benefits until September 30.
This is far different than giving them 8 months pay to not work.
He offered them 8 month Severance plus benefits.
WF is clearly targeting those that are in remote (non hub, non specialty) markets so why not offer it to the remote employees? They want the remotes gone and this way it is more voluntary.
He offered voluntary RESIGNATION with no severance. Accept by February 6 and you can continue to work from home until September 30, 2025 when you resign. Otherwise moving to a 5 day RTO and maybe displacement so take your chances. Sound familiar? Only 8% of federal employees goes into the office.
