Can I volunteer to be laid off

If there is a lay off coming. Google is doing voluntary layoffs why can’t we?

I got put on a PIP at another company because I took medical leave at a time I wasn't busy. The leave was federally protected FMLA leave. Having never had a problem previously with my work, when I turned in notice of planning to be out for 2 weeks they put me on a PIP, and gave me a 50% increase over a normal workload to be sure I failed. I didn't. Later when another group asked me to work for months on their project, my position (the same as many other people's position) was "eliminated". PIP is a BS way to fire you. I got a lawyer. I made significantly more that year than I would have normally.

3 or 4 years ago, they offered a voluntary early retirement package for anyone 55 or over. I don't know what the details were. Not old enough to take advantage if they were to offer again. Here more than 15 years and wouldn't mind being laid off with severance.

In the past some divisions (if that is still a term in the world of LHX NeXtXXX) would offer voluntary packages prior to a layoff. If they do that, then you can volunteer.

As far as being let go on a PIP and unemployment, that may vary from state to state. Where I was, people in this situation usually decided to resign/retire which technically made them ineligible to get unemployment.

Just throw a hissy fit when you get your 1%. They will put you in a pip which you will not come out of and they will eventually let you go. There will be 26 weeks of unemployment. If you do it right, you will have the summer off with pay..

You can lay yourself off any day you want!

I think you mean severance. So, no.
