Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I can’t do RTO

Even if I wanted to. I’ve been fully remote for years. Where I live now doesn’t allow for any manageable commute, and moving for a job with the costs today is not an option either. Well, I guess I will be in the first wave of those on which the RTO as the attrition strategy will work as intended.

"Do you ride bike for your commute? If you ride a car, I believe 35 mils is still inside one hour commute."

Do you live in Austin? Any big city? Austin doesn't have good public transportation. It's not like I can hop on the subway or a decent bus route to get to work. If you lived here, you would know that you can live within 20 miles of the office and it will still take an hour or more to get there during rush hour.

I'm just outside of the hour commute and at least 35 miles away from the closest office.

Talk to your management. I talked to mine; but it didn't get me anywhere. I'm just outside of the hour commute and at least 35 miles away from the closest office. They still expect me to come in. My approach will be to not go in and they will have to discipline me. I'll be looking for a new job in the meantime. I understand that I am lucky to be able to take this stance. Not everyone can risk getting fired. But, I refuse to make a 70 mile RT commute every day just to stroke the ego of the Dell executives.

The policy says that if you live beyond a manageable distance, you remain remote. As far as remote being laid off later, that’s another story.

It literally says to just get approval from your manager on what arrangement works best for both of you.
