In my 20 or so years here at exxon I have witnessed lower qualified employees promoted. If you had two employees doing the same output of work the one who kissed the bosses a ss was the one who got promoted. If the a-s kissing employee could make the other employee look bad it was even worse for the non a-s kisser. Enter the hunger games and may the best a-s kisser win. Once the a kisser gets the promotion or becomes a supervisor they become arrogant and expect the underlings to kiss their a sses. Hard work does not bring promotion without kissing a or being liked and favored. I and others refused to play the game so we suffered under unfair bosses. I have seen some truly sorry employees promoted and placed in charge of more knowledgeable and competent employees. It is sickening to see the young employees kissing up to the bosses. I have been lucky to move up the technical ranks and be well paid without having to sink to kissing up. Some of the supervisors lack decency and have no managerial skills. I am not being motivated or used to my full potential by my current supervisor. It is exxon's loss and another companies gain when I leave. Some managers try to bully employees into staying late and working extra hours even though they don't get overtime. I hope more employees leave quit so the message can be heard by upper management. Several employees that retired or quit in years past have voiced their concerns about the bad management. Nothing has been done about this and I don't think anything will ever change. The employee surveys always show employees dissatisfaction with the management but again nothing is done about it. It is a hopeless place destined to never change.

Years ago I had a real egotistical engineer. He expected his a kissed everyday by everyone. He was a young fellow that did not have much experience. He constantly belittled myself and another older employee. I don't believe anyone had ever challenged this special individual. I did excellent work and improved the experiments and testing. I started to not interact and this exceptional person. I only communicated by email and that way he would not abuse me by email. I stopped asking about his family and the small talk. He went to my supervisor and complained that I was not engaging with him. i was not kissing his a ss anymore just pure work and business. I was called into the supervisors office and was asked why I was not engaging. I told the supervisor the engineer would belittle me and was rude and unprofessional. I completed all work and even finished ahead of schedule. The supervisor suggested I start talk more to the a hole and ask how his day is and about his family. The supervisor said it would help the work dynamic. I told the supervisor that he should put I should kiss his a-s on my official work goals. I also said kissing a-s would take away from my technical work output because kissing a ss is taxing on me. My supervisor dropped it after our talk. We suffered with the A hole engineer for 2 more years. He had to take a few months off because he had a mental meltdown. So I do not kiss a but if you are nice and decent to me I will be nice back. There were some who ate up every word the a hole said, went to eat lunch and happy hour drinking after work. Hence the a kissing by the others. Some of the theses a kissers volunteered to help the engineer move into their new house. One of the electricians went to said engineers house and worked on it. Another helped the engineers wife clean the house one weekend. Lots of a kissing examples. I have witnessed countless others through the years. This particular engineer was one of the most arrogant, evil persons I have ever encountered.
