Ford Credit Technology Team - let's chat

Anyone currently in the technology team at Ford Credit care to share their thoughts on the current culture?

It's been bad for the past 3 years but the last 3-4 months it's gotten markedly worse.

There is always hope that the current CEO will see through the slick chatter and illusion of delivery, but nothing yet.

If you have observations or insight to add, please do.

@hm I hear the same thing all day long. But no efforts to fix anything. It's been this way for years. They don't care anymore. Customers are really ticked off. I feel your pain.

@jj I agree with everything you say. They have let some go in my location. If they are going to do it and turn over to MX and India, get it done.

@je+1jk42s2ah I appreciate it. For the people that live above their means, I would agree with you: find something else, since they cannot afford not to work. Technically, I spend around 50% of my income after taxes. House is paid off. Car is paid off. CCs are paid in full every month. No debts. The rest of that is "saved" for the future. I am not planning to work until I die (but I am aware that it can happen).

Yes, we can live with $30,000 less. However, if I stay at Ford 4 more years, the difference in salary would be $112,000 dollars. Why would I leave that amount of money on the table? I am not calculating beyond that, because I am not sure the company will be standing, nor I would have a job at Ford. I can get another job now, or I could get it later. Now means dealing with a bad job market and lesser bargain position. Maybe later I'll deal with a better one, since this is a cyclical industry, and I can get a better deal.

If I lose my job now, I have an emergency fund that should last several months. It should be enough for me to find something else. I've planned to even go to Europe on a vacation. Again, the idea would be to wait for a better job market, then find something else. If I die today, my family would be in a nice economical position. Already talked to my wife about what to do in that case.

All in all, I think I have the bases covered... :D

"28,000 dollars less than what I make now.."

Think about this statement. Then ask yourself why you couldn't live on 30k, even 40k less a year if you chose to. Chances are you can, and would if it came down to it.

If you work for Ford, GM, or Stellantis right now get out while you can. You should be looking. The sheer incompetence they've shown since 2012 in failing to transform, while adding pointless cr-p to these cars marketing thinks are cool speaks volumes about quality and where priorities are at. They will fail you and outsource you as an employee. Don't stand for these people having agency over you're future. Not worth the stress, and if you deem it is you might consider re-evaluating what's important to you. If working in automotive still is after that, I wish you happiness and health.

@db+1jk42s2ah Why does anyone work in that kind of environment?

Pension, salary, awful job market, can't find anything better, masochism. Who knows? I haven't seen many jobs openings for me, and I have searched. There are even less jobs in my salary range, and I doubt they are as flexible as the one I hold now.

Last year I applied to a job that looked promising (in a smaller company). I didn't make it past the first interview. The top salary for the position was 28,000 dollars less than what I make now, conmutting everyday, less flexibility. When I look at the big players, their jobs look similar to the one I have, but there are hundreds of applicants. Got to be a "finalist" one time, but I didn't get the job.

I don't like wasting my time. Sure, I waste my time every working day with the nonsense occurring at Ford. However, I get paid for it. Looking for a job happens on my own time, and I am waiting for the job market to improve. No need to go through hoops yet.

So I am in Ford Credit Customer service and all day have to hear how Ford Credit Account Manager is not working. Customer cannot even pay their bill. Ford Pass is locking customers out of vehicle and or won’t start. This is all day everyday and I am just one rep. We all get this everyday all day. There is a big problem somewhere. Also. It takes longer for us to provide services to customers since a lot of our jobs and other dept jobs went to India. What a mess. Obviously they do not care about what the customer needs or wants.

Why does anyone work in that kind of environment? Not sure why everyone acts like they have to stay and are helpless. The empty excuse of "feed my family...ect,." C'mon really, as if there are no viable alternatives.

FMCC current CTO is a snake oil salesman that has tripled the number of IT LL4s and filled those positions with other slick talkers from his former companies.

I was on that side for almost three years before 2023 layoffs and I’ve never had a more toxic job. I’m on the main side now. I don’t see it getting better. We had a 100% turnover rate on our team and I was constantly training ppl on top of absorbing jobs and doing my own. I’ve moved to the main company.
