Thread regarding Ford layoffs

January sales: bad news

F-150 sales down 11.5% YOY.
EV sales down 10.9% YOY
Lincoln only sold 6,985 vehicles, we used to cancel models that sold that few.

And still no line item for subscriptions sold.

I don't know where OP gets their numbers... But I suspect it's the past. EV sales were up 21%, F-series up 20% (though the breakdown is not reported), and Lincoln is down 7.4%. The number quoted for Lincoln was January 2024.

I'm not here too defend Ford's bad management, but let's get our facts straight.

It seems like we've got a regular Oliver Stone on our hands, uncovering the deepest, darkest secrets of the automotive industry. "We're trying to force the market and we don't care about the customers" - wow, what a bold and original statement. I'm sure it took a lot of courage to type that out, especially with all the creative language you used (I'm particularly fond of "cr-p" and "f-ing-thousand"). It's not like every other armchair expert has been saying the same thing for years.

And I love how you're suddenly an expert on customer preferences. I mean, who needs actual data or research when you've got gut feelings and anecdotal evidence? "No one wants to spend $80,000 on an F-150" - well, that's certainly true for you, isn't it? I'm sure your personal financial situation is representative of the entire market.

But hey, at least you're consistent. You started with a thoughtful and nuanced critique of Ford's sales numbers (i.e., copying and pasting some numbers onto the internet), and now you're following it up with some equally insightful commentary on customer preferences (i.e., making stuff up as you go along). Keep up the good work! Maybe someday you'll be able to string together a whole paragraph without using profanity or making baseless claims.

It looks like we've been blessed with the presence of a certified genius, who can dismiss an entire argument with a few lazy keystrokes. I mean, it's not like you actually had to exert yourself to come up with a thoughtful response, no, that would be far too taxing for someone of your limited cognitive abilities. Instead, you opted for the intellectually rigorous approach of insults and personal attacks - truly a hallmark of superior intelligence. And I must say, the typo in "no5" is a nice touch, it really adds to your credibility as a mastermind.

@a7 "changing customer preferences"? are you kidding me? We havent paid attention to what the customer wants for 15 years! You think that they want us to try and force EV down their throats? Do you think the customer wants us to put so much cr-p into a poorly made F150 that they have to shell out 80-f-ing-thousand dollars to own one? Do you think that a fist time buyer wants to spend 35-f-ing thousand dollars for a car?
Take your head out of the sand and realize that we are trying to force the market and we dont care a lick about the customers. and that in a nutshell is the problem.

People who are expecting huge Ford subscription revenue are brain washed well to believe it

You wrote five paragraphs to try to refute OP’s FACTUAL four sentence comment.
You have too much time on your hands, and no5 enough intelligence.

They don't want to share the great profits for subscriptions because it would show their hand? Isn't that a direct contradiction for gaining market value?

Why would Ford “show its hand” on subscriptions?

If they had a good hand.

Ford subscriptions don't have much demand. Don't fool yourselves.

I worked for a real software company before Ford. They were all about reporting the numbers of new subscribers and recurring subscribers. That is where the money is in subscriptions.

I agree on data and subscription sales details for public consumption. Why should Ford show its hand if it isn't require to? We already know they generate profits for the company and more importantly, the revenue comes from new and past sold vehicles. That's the intent.

Oh, absolutely. It’s like a slap in the face wrapped in a paper cut. Just trying to keep it together over here.

But hey, no big deal. Keep doing that thing you do, where you pretend anyone actually cares about your unmatched critique of basic market trends. Just brilliant stuff, truly.

The genius who's just now realizing that Ford's sales numbers are tanking. Congratulations, you've managed to stumble upon some publicly available information and regurgitate it onto the internet. I'm sure it took a lot of effort and expertise to copy and paste those numbers into a post.

And wow, your analysis is just so insightful: "F-150 sales down 11.5% YOY" - what a shocking revelation! I bet no one else has noticed that. And the fact that EV sales are down 10.9% YOY? That's just a total coincidence and not at all related to the fact that the entire automotive industry is struggling to adapt to changing consumer preferences.

But wait, it gets better! You also managed to dig up some ancient history about Lincoln sales numbers. "We used to cancel models that sold that few" - oh man, that's some top-notch commentary right there. I'm sure the executives at Ford are just shaking in their boots, thinking "Oh no, this guy remembers what we did with model sales numbers 10 years ago!"

And finally, your pièce de résistance: "And still no line item for subscriptions sold." Oh boy, you're really going out on a limb with that one. I'm sure it's not at all possible that Ford just doesn't want to release those numbers yet, or that they're not relevant to the current discussion. Nope, it's clearly a conspiracy to hide the truth from brilliant minds like yours.

So here's a suggestion: why don't you try actually doing some real analysis or providing some meaningful insights instead of just parroting back publicly available information? Or better yet, why don't you just stick to what you're good at: regurgitating numbers and making vague statements about how things used to be?

BYD sold 296,446 EV in a single month. I bought this stock last January for $50 per share. It's up to $70 per share now.

I am buying 5000 more shares.

It’s worse than just that, we sold less than 50k F-150s and there are 170k in inventory.
There’s going to be some big discounts.
