Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Promoted Outwards

Maybe XOM just needs to come up with a new term to describe the whole PIP/PIL process. You don’t “need significant improvement”, you’re just being encouraged to leave the company and be “promoted outwards.” Nice.

If you want to sc--w your young hipo boss wait till you are 52 and "protected" then f--k up a deal that your boss does not catch. Your are safe, but his career is over. All of us old hands new ways to sc--w obnoxious supervisors. Especially true if you are old enough to be on first name basis with all the SVPs/PRes and MC. Do not ever reveal who you know at the top. Then use it to sc--w the young whippersnapper. Most of the t young CL30 (age 35 to 40) do have not clue of your past relationships with people who are now at the top. We know their wives and their kids and our kids played with their kids twenty years ago. All of the top upstream mangers who have over 35 years service are my friends because we were hired together and worked together for decades as they were climbing the ranks. Some still owe us favors and most will listen to our concerns over bad supervisors, who are overranked. Many highflyers were derailed by these personal relationships because management started to observe these toxic tendencies once a trusted confidant pointed them out.

The company needed my cooperation so didn’t try to pip me sooner. But once that project is done and they think they have no more use for me, then off to NI I go. Supervisor kept me around so he can take credit for “supervising” my work. The gaslighting was always there. One thing they are very good at is selecting the over achievers and pray on their insecurity.

The company wants you to retire at 55 years old. I am surprised that the "gaslighting" did not start at age 52 so that they have three years of documented "performance" issues.

I was not PIP but I don’t like being told out of the blue that I need improvement when months before they praised me for a job well done. The only difference was I turned 55.

What kind of company put people in supervisory roles when they know nothing about the work they supervise or even how to manage people? It’s a horribly disrespectful to have some young g-n instruct a seasoned veteran on basic stuff. Or have political supervisor fabricate negative feedback to build a false narrative. What kind of company would elevate toxic individuals who would belittle people’s life work and hurt others emotionally. So they can posture on their imagined self importance and maintain their perceived position of power in a sh-t company?

So glad I got the he-l out of this place. Staying here was not good for the soul.
