Variance in RTO hours per Org

What has your Org advised (if anything) about minimum hours you need to be in the office per day? Have heard: 4 hours, 6 hours and some 8.

I got the call yesterday, The Report caught me at an average of less than 3 hrs in the office. (Normally I WFH in the am and drive to the office during lunch) when I asked what the minimum was, I was told “if you’re in the office 8 hrs then you have nothing to worry about” even though it is not written anywhere and no one knew the answer to ‘how many hours must you be at the office to avoid being on the non-compliant report’. It’s no joke, they are keeping score and getting ready to fire people.

“If you’re in the office, make sure to work the full 8 hours. There’s no sense in working 6 hours there, only to go home and log back in for a few more hours—that goes against the idea of work-life balance. I was originally hired for a remote role and used to work 10+ hours a day. Now, I set my own office hours, and once my 8 hours are done, I shut down my PC and COU, and focus on my personal life.”

So herein lies the issue…. I assume you don’t have parental responsibilities that more or less dictate your schedule, that present challenges to being present during ‘normal working hours’? Perhaps you have a spouse that can fulfill these duties - or you are young and childless. Whatever the case, good for you but understand the lack of flexibility we now have disproportionately effects those who aren’t in the same position - women, 30-40+ employee base, divorcees, etc. Put it together, and you can start to see why there are claims of bias. If RTO was truly about collaboration and productivity we’d still be at 3 days and thousands of employees that have been working remote wouldn’t be forced to relocate.

"I am in office today, in Dallas (HUB). There are probably only 20% of the seats full."

Are you on the 4th floor?

We are constantly on mandatory overtime and was told all overtime must be worked in the office.

in our org, we are only required to badge in, boot laptop, get a coffee, answer an email.or 2, then go finish the day at home

Not sure 5 days is being enforced. I would feel better if EVERYONE was held to the same standards.

"I'm at a competitor and love that ATT is so fixated on geo-fencing COUs and ensuring employees stick to hubs, 8-5, 5 days a week. Keep focusing on that ATT! Meanwhile, we're going to go steal your customers."

While you're at it, you can have some very skilled and recently disillusioned employees too.

Keep focusing on the wrong things!

We were told minimum 6 hours in office. I work first and last hour on the train for an 8 hour work day.

Not this topic again. Ge-z. You work 40 hours a week at a minimum. Five days a week for eight hours a day minimum.

The COUs part is true.
Also - the first batch of reports for Jan 2025 just went to VP’s and up for people who were found to be present less than 5 hours in office .

“ Also learned during this that they have hub offices geo fenced and are pinging COUS every 5 seconds“

The part above is completely fabricated.

Some things are better not discussed. If you do ask, it's 8hrs a day.

HR ran a report for all management employees last week. Those that had less than 6 hours per day per their assigned days per week have been put on a performance plan.
