Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Oh the irony

AT&T is putting on the "Envision the Future of Work and Collaboration" event in Dallas on February 26 (found on LinkedIn).

"AT&T Consulting is hosting a unique customer event to help you envision the future of modern work and collaboration powered by Microsoft technologies. The content is custom designed for technology leaders in Voice and Collaboration"

Highlights:

  • Accelerate time-to-value of Teams and Teams Phone Mobile (TPM) - Gain best practices to overcome common barriers to adoption of enterprise collaboration.
  • Learn what other customers are doing to create a state-of-the-art VC (Video Conferencing) solution to improve employee engagement within and outside of the enterprise.

So they are going to teach leaders how to use tools to collaborate remotely.... the very thing they say is ineffective and doesn't work for AT&T. Brilliant!

You can't make this up.

"And guess what, people that didn’t work when they were home are going to be the same people that don’t work when they are in the office."

It will go much further than that because the people that were working no longer trust the company to be treated fairly. Those employees will either leave the company, or reduce their work to minimum because they do not feel there is any benefit to working harder.

it's because AT&T needs some metric to justify getting rid of people. Well run companies don't have to worry about layoffs and the employees actually care.

“ Performance metrics showed widespread abuse of WFH. T had no choice but to implement 5x8”

No choice? If this was really the case, then just get rid of those that were abusing WFH, problem solved. Instead, they just want to drive people out, doesn’t matter who it is, because we are all just a number.

And guess what, people that didn’t work when they were home are going to be the same people that don’t work when they are in the office. The only thing that RTO 5x8 is doing is reducing headcount, not getting rid of the slackers.
