Short email last Friday about abrupt leave of absence of another VP? What's up with that ?

"I think we found her..."
What does this mean?

I think we found her...
CRL is all about Old Boys Network and I scratch your back and you scratch my back, when it comes to promotions and career advancements.
CRL has good scientists and engineers. But there is too much cronyism and nepotism amongst the CRL leaders and they have no vision of technology or market or business. They guide the employees with wrong metrics - hence the outcome.
CRL is basically useless overall. Good riddance. Cut some more before breaking up the company.
So do we know any more about this? I heard someone guessing there could be some announcement in March
I heard her throwing her boss under the bus to my boss (MM). Not impressed and neither was he. Can only imagine what it was like to work for her.
Vanity. This is what happens when someone gets to a certain position, thanks to DEI, nepotism, cronyism, without earning it.
Seen quite a few examples in 3M.
She will just look through you without reciprocating with a greeting when crossing in hallways. I thought it was because of my level being much lower but witnessed her talking ill of SVPs in the most undiplomatic way…. One wonders how they climbed with not much technical achievement either
CRDL had some of the lowest Voice of Employee survey results this year that I've ever seen. She presented those results and then went on leave. Wonder if that was just coincidental timing or related.
The talk of her returning is almost certainly just a party line that will disappear once the lawyers sort out how to get her fully severed
Any new info or rumors on this? CRL VP made it sound like it was temporary.
Talking about " despise ratio" mentioned in a message below, this particular candidate would have given the VP of CRDL a close run :
DEI can be a force for good when done properly.
However during Covid era, 3M followed this corporate fad blindly and had two main objectives : hire or promote candidates from one particular gender in mid level or top tier roles and hire more minorities at entry level positions.
One particular example that was a complete and utter disaster comes to mind.
A DEI hire was brought in CRL at a Lab Director level (equivalent to a T6). This candidate had no previous managerial experience and was a process engineer and a patent agent in a semiconductor/ software company and was straightaway given charge of about 35 people including many senior researchers in CRL.
The whole group was in disarray and it was chaotic beyond description for the two years that the DEI Director was in charge, since this person was utterly unqualified for the job. The fact that this person was technically shallow and full of hot air and did not have any people management skills did not help either !
Eventually senior personnel in the group protested and the VP was forced to transfer this DEI candidate to a business development role in a division with zero direct reports.
The candidate eventually left 3M and is currently a Federal employee.
There were and are many deserving candidates for that role but 3M did not spend the time or make the effort in hiring the right candidate. Hence quite the disastrous consequence.
Good riddance to another DEI promotee!
Let the purge continue.
I’m a Black Belt Six Sigma. Just needed to put that out there 😃
She has wrecked, or tried to wreck, the careers of many good people, inflicted pain and misery on large swaths of the employees in her organizations, and, as far as I know, contributed nothing of value to the company. There may be higher level executives who are disliked by more people overall, but in terms of sheer proportion, I can’t think of another manager with a higher “despise ratio.” The fact that someone like her lasted as long as she did is a stain on the company. I’m not in her organization, but I have friends who are—and they’re celebrating like the Wicked Witch is finally gone.
Does anyone know of one positive impact she’s ever had on culture or results?
They got rid of the Six Sigma program (and most who were supporting it), those who were saved were rolled into "Continuous Improvement". The businesses/divisions then got rid of that, some now have PMOs. In SIBG town hall this week, CG said PG and Friends are responsible for the Continuous Improvement program... not sure how that improves processes outside of SC&M but I'll wait on the edge of my chair to see how it all pans out.
she was a failure in AdMD before...
Does Six Sigma still carry the day at 3M? I retired a couple of years ago and it was still going strong. At that time, anyone in 6S was considered "golden" with the understanding that these individuals were going places and any employee outside of the organization was some how less important.
Perhaps she went to join Dr. Vale and peeping Rob Cesena.
It looks like she no longer has direct reports in 3M Go.
I don't know her, but based on what you wrote (gone two weeks, then email saying leave of absence) I would first speculate some sort of serious personal issue (medical, family, etc.) ahead of anything more sinister.
I am curious about this as well. No information at all and she was out two weeks prior to this email announcement too.
Corporate Research Digital Lab
Why invest in long-term projects if the goal is to sell off pieces?
Central Research (and) Development Lab. Several building at and around 3M Center plus some other global locations.
Unfortunately, to meet the cost savings goals they cut mostly JG14 and less. A lot of Directors have but a few reports.
CRDL was an innovation factory into the 1990s. Mcnerney began starving it in the early 2000s and then imposed Sick Sigma on PhD chemists and engineers.
BB looks at it as a waste of money because he can't get enough oomph from it short term to meet next quarters Wall Street targets imposed on him by NYC people who got Cs in HS chemistry.
what is CRDL? Also, any more info on who that is is appreciated.
